# About me
The basis of my work seems to be focusing on exposing the mechanical processes and trivialites of human behaviour and consciousness as a whole. I find interest in studying patterns in nature and try to incorporate this within my compositions. Like memory, my work is composed of fragments of imagery designed to evoke an emotional response. The materials that I prefer to use are sourced from aged publications that have degraded in colour and fashion, which are then gone on to the use of traditional cut and paste methods. My works are never pre meditated which is interesting to see how i am confronted with the processes that go on whilst creating. It becomes a very personal experience, open to my own interpretion.
I would describe my work as a kind of visual poetry, gesturing towards ideas of popular culture, mass media, and the psychoanalysis of human nature.
A lot of inspiration came to me from the collage community of deviantArt so i have a lot of people to thank for that.

Sure, i'd love to. Is it regarding the postcard competition or just a collage on card in general. Thanks

I look forward to the process of exploration, through the *My Paper Group*.
My own, and the work of other artists, are great entertainment and revelation of viewpoints to study and experience.
I enjoy a good philosophical debate. I noted your comments streaming here.
We are vessels of so much more than we can conceive with just our moment by moment consciousness.
What is an identity? I believe there is, in each of us, an ultimate self, which would be the one seen by the supreme Being.
I believe He is always present and personal. Interested in knowing His created beings. That He sees us as His masterpieces. But with that Pinocchio factor, hence the questions of morality.
I believe we are eternal, though this brief time while we are manifested as human creatures on this planet is of ultimate significance.
I believe the Supreme Being knows us and understands us, all the way down to the galaxies of cellular levels within our separate beings.
That existence is probably going even more infinitely tiny than we have yet discovered. As technology advances, we continue to discover more within our own cellular structure. The intricacy and complexity, WOW. And it is "us" -- though consciously we don't even understand an ounce of it.
There is the flap of a butterfly wing deal, in which we are all in some sense "one". Though I believe in a definite separateness of each of our beings.
I tend to think very detailed. I would like to learn to be more simple and direct.
As I started to write this, I was responding to your thoughts about morality.
That triggered my ideas about how we perceive and judge ourselves {self-concept 1},,,
How we think others perceive us {numerous self-concepts depending on who we are using for our mirror},,,
Who every person in our lives actually thinks we are, different from what we project into the mirror we see in their eyes. If you want to count those...
Everyday most of these go through changes. I could go on, but that is what collage is good for.
Words can go on and on. Collage combined with words, I love that.
Can't wait to share with your group, as a viewer and an artist.
Thanks for the welcome.

I love your philosophy of life and i too would just like to think plain and simple so my philosophy of life is very blunt now.
Ive narrowed it down to the whole idea of trying to live for the sake of it and disconcerning the whole idea beyond any cosmical meaning of life.
I do this because i am helpless to know the answer. I see it very pointless, even though deep down i may think differently.
You might aswell eat the fruit because its there and because there is nothing else but the bowl of fruit.
However, i see art as the gateway to express what we all want to believe deep down. It's a chance to have your ideas and beliefs accepted. Its almost as if the paper represents the whole idea of creation of life as we know it and what you put onto it is entirley up to you and no one can judge because its your work.
Its great to have encountered you, i too am deeply inspired by philosophy and art. The group 'My Paper' is a project to play around with the idea of imagery and type combined. Pieces to provoke your emotion and flare your thoughts. thank you

Thank you Richard and to you too. Today ive been pondering about the thought of human condition and what it is that makes us human. You take away our commodities and cultural paraphernalia, and we are left with ourselves, our physical and spiritual containers, growth and decay, belief and uncertainty. Instinct. We are only subjected to morals because of society. Underneathe we are all animals.

RichardLeach In reply to Golland [2010-03-08 23:29:34 +0000 UTC]
Well, that's the Lord of the Flies image, I guess. But remember that "underneath" in your statement is a metaphor... who we are is a question of the stories we tell about who we are. "Underneath we are all animals" is one story, and there are others, in which kindness and justice - and the internet through which we speak - are quite real.

hypothetically speaking, say if one were born in a place with no development of language. No society to lay down rules. No examples to follow. Youd only be left with instinct and the will to live. there are no morals there. When society is broken down, our morals slowly fade.

RichardLeach In reply to Golland [2010-03-09 00:38:58 +0000 UTC]
Yeah. I see that. We're a world full of partially broken societies, I think. Horrible long-lasting civil wars in Africa. Suicide bombers in Pakistan and Afghanistan and Iraq. Not to mention the brokenness of my own U.S.A. under Bush and Cheney, which we are only beginning to fix. If morality depends on society, then who builds society, and who breaks it, are very important questions. It's awful when it's broken from the top as it was by Bush/Cheney.

Why do you think people thrive for originality in art?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
RichardLeach In reply to Golland [2010-03-09 00:56:58 +0000 UTC]
Wow, that's a good question. I think... we want to hear our own voices, not just the voices of everyone else, and the noise of the world... and it's not pure selfishness because we want others to hear us too, to connect with others with our own voices.
Have you ever sung - at school or church or in a band or in a sing-along at a show? You want to hear yourself. It's no fun if you can't. In art - originality is hearing yourself.
Uh, I just said all this as it came to me, so it may not hold water... what do you think?

Golland In reply to RichardLeach [2010-03-09 01:08:27 +0000 UTC]
so you're saying originality is in the eye of the beholder? Everyones perception is different but we all like to find ourselves within. I may have misjudged what you were trying to say completely, forgiveness, my mind is shutting down now. All this talking has inspired me enough to put these thoughts onto paper but now im going to sleep. Good night and good day sir. Thank you

Like I said before, I really do enjoy your art. Your style, for me, is very original and creative.
You are correct in the fact that it does make me seek a deeper meaning in your pieces. I like to do this too, only I accomplish it in words on paper.
Anyway, I think many people will really enjoy your work. Good luck with everything.
