-wip-
She is the eldest city in Lithuania.
. She is quite kind-hearted and trustworthy.
Klaipeda is known to be a hard worker, but has those klutzy moments where she will screw something up. And then somehow have to fix it rather quickly. She works with her ports many days a week. Supervising to make sure everything that needs to be exported is shipped on the boats properly. Sometimes she will even go on trips to where those items are being exported.
She loves to take time out of one day a week day to go dancing with citizens. Dancing is one of her favorite things to do, and considers it a pastime for herself. She especially loves dancing on the day of the Lithuanian independence day ((and her birthday of course) . A whole day of celebrating Lithuania's birthday and freedom from the Soviet Union and hardships of the past.
For most of her life she had been living under Prussia's control. If my memory serves correctly, she began to stay with him ever since the treaty of Melno was signed. From the Teutonic knights and then til after ww2 she had been under his control. She was a lot more active in the ports at the time.
Though there were at least two incidents to when the Swedish and the Russians had her under their own control.
But other than that, Klaipeda had dealt with living under the Prussian rule, which at times she did not mind. She was able to use her ports much more, and trade with the Germans.
in 1252 was when the Prussian's built a castle called Memelburg in her city. The castle is still there today, though now it is just a museum (most of it is actually gone, there is only a small sliver of it now )). At times when there is nothing to do Klaipeda will take a drive over there and walk through whatever is left of the castle.
in 1258 is the time when the Germans began to call Klaipeda 'Memel' and was then given her municipal rights. Then in 1328 the entire city was controlled by the Prussian's. Though in those same years The Duchy of Lithuania had tried to take it back. Later the Polish-Lithuanian commonwealth had also attempted to get the young city back in their hands in 1410. It was known as the battle of Zalgiris.
Unfortunately Klaipeda had stayed in the hands of Prussia. She then became the most northern city in The duchy of Prussia.
Klaipeda did not enjoy her very long life living with Prussia. She was still trying to be forced into becoming a Catholic (not many citizens wanted to of course) . She enjoyed polytheism so much more. Some of the Gods she would worship was Bangputys, the god of seas and storms or Kaukas, who was a spirit similar to a troll.
in 1525, the Livonian Order had disregarded all religious status in Klaipeda and many other places. Meaning people could choose their religions. ((I think that is what it means, please correct me if I am wrong )
in 1540 the city was burned to the ground. So many people had died on those days. Klaipeda still has a burn mark on her shoulder from the incident ((i know this is kinda like a cliche, don't remind me, I might change this )). It was something that really traumatized her. Every time someone mention's it she closes her eyes and still remember's the fire, it never really escapes her mind. No matter how hard she tries to forget.
1678 the Swedish were in control of her territory, and had decided to burn down her suburbs to keep the fortress in tact.
((I need to find more info on this, please be patient ))
In 1709 her city was struck with a horrible plague. Killing many of her citizens. She also had fallen horribly ill at the time. She would lay in her bed for most of the day and try to keep holding on. Klaipeda was very weak and suffered greatly from the sudden epidemic.
Though right after the plague was over with she was suddenly starting to feel stronger. She became more than a small providence area, but a larger and more important city with all her trading and exporting.
-this will be a horribly long wip! Everything below this is information that will be used for headcannons and history when I find more time to write it all up-
Audra is a eastern european with tan-ish skin tone. She has almost-dark brown hair that is normally tied in a tight bun, or sometimes she wears it in a nice braid while she is working outside. She wears a light green dress that is used for dancing or out in the town. It is expertly stitched in many different patterns of red cross stitch.
But when she is relaxing at home Audra wears a nice long brown skirt that reaches to her knees. Then wears a long green shirt with small red flowers stitched on the sleeves
While the History Museum of Lithuania Minor offers interesting exhibitions on the cultural and social history of Klaipeda, it provides relatively little insight on the city’s political history and almost no information of any sort in English. I hope that this brief history will enhance both your understanding and enjoyment of Lithuania’s third largest city and only commercial port.
On the bank of the Danes River stands a large stone monument, sculpted by A. Sakalauskas, inscribed with a quotation by the local writer Ieva Simonaityte, "We are one nation, one land, one Lithuania." The sculpture itself, whose larger gray column represents Lithuania Minor and whose smaller red Doric column represents Lithuania major, hints that history has told a different story. With its deliberately jagged edge, representing the loss felt by Lithuanians because of Russian sovereignty over what is now the Kaliningrad Oblast, it indicates that this thinking remains somewhat wishful.
Klaipeda owes her name to the members of the Curonian tribe, among the ancestors of today’s Lithuanians, in whose language the words klaip and eda mean "bread" and "eat" respectively. While they established a fishing village in the general vicinity of her house around the first century AD, they rarely had the opportunity to consume their bread in peace. Of course Klaipeda always had a problem with this. Various invaders, in particular the Vikings and later the Livonian branch of the Teutonic Knights, attacked the region with regularity. The latter succeeded in taking the settlement, and in 1252, erected a brick fortress they named Memelburg (Memel Castle) after the German name for the Nemunas River, which runs into the Curonian Lagoon 50km south, near Nida on the Curonian Spit.
In 1258 Klaipeda, which came to be known as Memel to the germans, was given municipal rights, and in 1328, the Livonian Order transferred control of the city to its counterpart in Prussia. Despite frequent attempts to take the city, first by the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and then by the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, the town remained firmly in the hands of the Teutonic Knights, even after their otherwise decisive defeat at the Battle of Zalgiris (Gruenwald) in present-day Poland in 1410. After the Order’s abandonment of its religious status in 1525, Memel became the northernmost town of the Duchy of Prussia, which it would remain until 1918.
As a member of the Hanseatic League and a key strategic fortress, Memel was often attacked by foreign powers; however, its sturdy fortress fell into non-Prussian hands on only two occasions – to the Swedes in 1628-1635 and the Russians in 1757-62. The thriving trading city that developed was less fortunate – burning to the ground in 1540, badly damaged again in 1678, and stricken with famine and plague between 1709 and 1711. Nonetheless, it developed strong trading ties with Britain and was settled by both Scottish and English merchants, who gave it something of a multicultural character. When King Friedrich Wilhelm III of Prussia fled French occupation of Berlin in 1807, he made Memel his temporary capital for a single year.
With the establishment of the Second Reich in 1871, the Prussian King Wilhelm I became Kaiser (Emperor) of Germany as well, and on the urging of his Chancellor Otto von Bismarck, commenced a Germanization campaign that rankled with Lithuanians. After Germany’s defeat in the First World War, the city and surrounding region were placed under international jurisdiction (akin to the status afforded the Free City of Danzig/Gdansk) with day-to-day administration to be conducted by the French. Embittered by the awarding of Vilnius (Wilno) to Poland, the fledgling Lithuanian Republic organized demonstrations by the local Lithuanian population, and amid international dithering, annexed the city in 1923, giving the new country a working port.
Although the international community accepted the transfer as compensation for the loss of Vilnius, this Germans regarded the action as yet another entry on the list of territorial grievances they had with their victorious enemies in the First World War. Adolf Hitler was able to play upon this sentiment, and on March 23, 1939, unilaterally announced the annexation of the territory while the international community again stood by. It was Nazi Germany’s last territorial annexation before it attacked Poland in September of the same year.
The Soviet Army seized Klaipeda in 1945 and annexed it to the rest of Lithuania, which it had recently captured from Nazi Germany. During the war, much of the city was destroyed, accounting for the Soviet character of its architecture outside the small (and largely reconstructed) Old Town.
The Soviets expelled the German population and deported many members of the Lithuanian population to Siberia. At the same time, Russians were settled in Klaipeda, which became a major shipbuilding and fishing center, and its prewar population more than quadrupled to 200,000. By the time Lithuania regained its independence, Klaipeda had become the fourth largest port in the entire Soviet Union as a result of its status as the country’s only ice-free port
a city in Lithuania situated at the mouth of the Danė River where it flows into the Baltic Sea. It is the third largest city in Lithuania and the capital of Klaipėda County.
The city has a complex recorded history, partially due to the combined regional importance of the Port of Klaipėda, a usually ice-free port on the Baltic Sea, and the Akmena - Danė River. It has been controlled by the Teutonic Knights, the Duchy of Prussia, the Kingdom of Prussia, the German Empire, the Entente States immediately after World War I, Lithuania as a result of the 1923 Klaipėda Revolt, and the Third Reich following the 1939 German ultimatum to Lithuania.
The city was incorporated into Lithuania during its tenure as a Soviet Socialist Republic and has remained within Lithuania following its re-establishment as an independent state.
The population shrank from 207,100 in 1992 to 177,823 in 2011. Popular seaside resorts found close to Klaipėda are Nida to the south on the Curonian Spit, and Palanga to the north.
Klaipeda is the third largest city in Lithuania and the only sea-port of the country. Originally founded by Baltic tribes, the city was built by the Teotonic Order in 1252 and named Memel after a river 40 kilometers south. For most of its history, Klaipeda, was part of Prussia and later Germany before falling into Lithuanian hands after the First World War. The German heritage is still highly visible, but the sea-port status has seen the city blooming on its own.
Despite not having a very strong basketball team in the city, Klaipeda has still managed to develop many international-level stars such as Arvydas Macijauskas, Tomas Delininkaitis and Saulius Stombergas. The local side Neptunas has always been among the midlevel Lithuanian sides and relies on developing young talents.

The first mention of Lithuania dates back to the mid-XIII century. The town of Klaipeda was founded in 1252. Klaipeda is a unique Lithuanian city by virtue of its colourful, turbulent and tragic history and also because the Old Town’s architectural style is similar to many western European cities with which it had close links.
The history of the city dates back to the time when the Livonian Order built a castle called Memelburg. A town grew around the castle close to where the waters of the Curonian Lagoon flow into the Baltic Sea.
Klaipeda is now Lithuania’s gateway to the world and the capital of the west of Lithuania. It is a vibrant and exciting city in which to live and work. The City has its own university, which is a true scientific and cultural centre. The Lithuanian Christian College has just celebrated its tenth anniversary and goes from strength to strength.
The seaport of Klaipeda is popular with investors and foreign partners because of its attractive and competitive conditions to develop industry and promote small and medium businesses.
Klaipeda will become increasingly important because of its direct links with other European and world-wide ports and because it is a sea transport centre, where regular shipping lines and fast modern motorway routes merge together.
Tourism is becoming increasingly important to Klaipeda and its hinterland and major investments are being made to promote it. The newly opened passenger cruise terminal, close to the City centre, will bring increased traffic to the area in the years to come.
Klaipeda has a population of around 200,000. It has direct motorway links with Lithuania’s capital city of Vilnius (310 km) and the second city of Kaunas (220 km).

Audra put her hand on her cheek, resting it there as she heard two voices, whom of course didn't knock. She rolled her eyes again, the blankets didn't stir.
"Well come on in and take your shoes off if you weren't planning on it before walking in with dirty feet~." She chortled, tickling the little bundle, making it squeak.

"As always!" Toris grinned, taking his shoes off and helping Tammy take hers off. Once Tammy's shoes were off, she darted to where her her aunty was.
"Hahaha! Hi Aunty Audra! Oh, what are you holding?" Tammy giggling softly, scrabbling up onto the couch and peeking over her shoulder.

Audra looked over her shoulder to see Tammy standing there behind her, trying to see what was in her lap, Audra got herself in a little fetal position and said. "Well, why don't you see for yourself~."

Tammy leaned over and saw a little face peeking through the blankets, with wide eyes and a small smile.
"Awwww!!!" Tammy squealed, clapping her hands together softly "She's so cute!! Oh my god! Daddy, daddy, Aunty Audra had a baby!" Tammy squealed, just as Toris came in.
"What?!" Toris yelped, slipping over his feet and slamming fast first into the floor.

"Shhhh!!!" Audra put a finger to Tammy's lips, the child under the blankets had been sleeping, but thanks to Tam's big mouth she was awake again. The girl's name was Inga, which meant daughter of a hero, according to the baby dictionary. She had little green eyes and messy hair that was put in two pig tails. She was maybe four or five years old.
She blinked at Toris and Tammy, and slowly put the covers over her head.

"Ah, sorry Aunty" Tammy giggled nervously, moving away from the finger and looking over at the shy child again.
"What do you mean Audra had a baby Tammy, you know animals don't count as children" Toris huffed, scrabbling back up to his feet and wandering forward. Once he saw Audra with a little bundle in her arms, and Tammy still looking like she was going to squeal, he realised it must have been a kid.
"Awww! I'm an Uncle!!" Toris covered his mouth while he started to giggle and squeal.

"Yeah and I thought Raven was the only thing close to a kid." She sighed, rubbing her forehead as she rocked her legs with Inga on it. "Her name is Inga, she's a quiet child, and I don't like it, she just...poofed up in my bed this morning. And it's been kinda awkwardly quiet since." She explained, looking at Tammy, smiling.

"Does she know how to talk?" Tammy murmured, leaning closer to the shy girl and smiling. "Hello Inga! I'm Tammy, but you can call me Tim-Tam if you want! Can you speak? Can we be friends?"
"Don't overwhelm her, Tam" Toris laughed, patting the girls shoulder, than looking over at Audra.
"She just appeared? Sounds like what happened with Tammy. Must have been one of those magic people!"

Audra looked up at Toris. "Yeah, you should go tell Felix later...even though I am only having her for 10 questions on my blog...I guess that is how it's supposed to be." She said as she ruffled the child's hair.

"Yeah, he'll be overjoyed!" Toris grinned "I mean, he's never been an uncle before... Oh, yeah... Be thankful as well that you know when she's going. I mean, Tammy could just disappear at any time... But for now, we can both just love the time!"

"What does Aunty mean? Where am I going?"
"You're not going anywhere, just play with Inga" Toris smiled and patted the girls head. Tammy shrugged and turned back to her little cousin, and the smile dropped from Toris's face.

Toris smiled sadly and patted his sisters knee.
"I know what you mean sis, I know what you mean. Let's just hope that she stays for a long time, and that you won't get lonely! Don't forget Feliks and I are here as well!" he smiled at her, but deep down he was jealous.
At least she could have children in some way.

But even if there was a slight possibility that she could have children (my headcannon is that countries and cities can't)it's not like she would try to have any. And no one would want to be with her anyhow. There was no marriage with another city.
"Even if you are there, remember I have so much work, there is so much. I didn't get to much of it done since she arrived..." She cringed and sat up, watching Inga roll her eyes and start counting under her breath.

Inga had watched her 'mother' walk off towards her studies, she was old enough to realize and had spent enough time with her to see that this woman was busy. She worked hard, and Inga had seemed to be in the way the past two days, it made her feel in the way.
Tammy seemed to be so at ease with the man who was her father. Audra hadn't treated her like that, not ever. She might have kept Inga happy, but not warmed. She heard the low growl that Toris made playfully, her eyes widened and she screamed and ran towards the bedroom she slept in. Inga slammed the door quickly, and put herself against it.

though when he heard the slamming of the door, his smile dropped and he instantly felt guilty.
"I scared her..." Toris sighed, hanging his head. Tammy frowned and patted his shoulder, climbing onto his back.
"Come on daddy, it's alright! Inga mustn't like the growling or something" Tammy said softly. Toris nodded and headed towards the door Inga had run off towards. When he reached it, he sat down infront of is, not going in, in case he scared her.

"Shut up Tammy!" She snapped, looking at her with wide eyes, she grabbed her blanket and pulled it over her head. "I just want to be left alone, I'm tired of being silent, everyone just go away!" She felt her face get even hotter, she had those outbursts like her mother did. But hers was much worse at times.
She kicked and pulled her hair from under the covers, refusing to listen to Tammy.

"Inga, stop it, please!" Tammy yelped, trying to control the anger that was bubbling deep down. Like her daddy, she could also snap, but she was better at controlling them. She jumped up beside Inga and pulled the covers off her head, trying to uncurl the little girls fingers from her hair.

Inga had pouted angrily at Tammy, she struggled against the smaller girl. "W-why are you doing that! Let me go!" She got up and started trying to push down on her cousin. Inga's eyes were an angry green, flaring with emotions.

"Because I don't want you to hurt yourself!" Tammy pleaded, her eyes scared and worried. After a bit of struggle, Tammy yelped and she was pushed down, falling off of the bed and onto the floor with a small "Oof!"

"Why do you care! Go back to your daddies! At least they will care about you!" She pounced on the child, but she was to light to do any type of damage. She put her little arms around her neck and hugged her.

"She never acts like it!" Inga protested, her chubby arms starting to squeeze the other child. "I-I just want her to show it, she feeds me and reads to me, thats it, then sends me to bed! You and your daddies get to have f-f-un." There was rage in her voice.

Tammy gagged slightly, a choking feeling starting to constrict around her neck.
"I-Inga, if you f-feel like that, then tell her! I-I had to t-tell my... dad..." Tammy was struggling to breath now, and little specks of white started to dance in her vision.

Inga had noticed Tam's expression, she curled up on her and let go of her neck.
"N-ne, it's so hard to talk to her..I stay quiet oka-okay?" Still upset, she sat on Tammy while she looked at the door, wondering where Toris had gone off to. She supposed an apology was in hand, but she knew she wouldn't do that either.

Tammy took a few thankful breaths, before calming down and hugging Inga close to her, patting her hair. Like Toris, she always tried to make someone feel better.
"If you can't, my daddy will. They're brother and sister, so Daddy wouldn't mind. If not, I'll talk to her!"

"Don't dare say anything or I'll hurt you!" She raised her voice again, in a threatening way as well. Inga put her face in the nape of Tam's neck and shoulder, pouting angrily there for a little while. "I hate everything."

"A tiny thing like you hurt me?" Tammy teased playfully, leaning down and kissing the top of her cousin's head "And don't be sour, you can't hate everything! That would mean you hate the flowers, and the sun, and food, oh god food, how could you hate that?" Tammy laughed, a grin fixed on her face.

"I'm not little! I'm almost as big as you!" She kept her voice at a loud level, suddenly licking her cousins cheek. "Don't kiss me, it's gross, yuck germs." She rolled her eyes.
"And of course I don't hate everything just a lot of things.

"Hahaha!" Tammy started laughing at the lick, and at her cousins angry response "Aww, You're an awesome cousin still though! and I'm gonna kiss you all over!"
Inga's eyes widened in horror, and before she could run, Tammy started kissing her cousins forehead, cheeks, chin, nose and hair, laughing at the same time.

Her face turned really red, and I mean REALLY red, she twisted and turned. "A-ah stop that! T-that is so wierd!" She would not forget this, it was much to awkward to not do so. Inga groaned. "Why are you pestering!"

"Yeah, and you're adorable!" Tammy giggled, nuzzling into her cheek. Tammy was having to much fun teasing Inga like this, kissing her and hugging her to no extent "Hry, Ingy? Do you think we should say sorry to my daddy? He seemed upset! He isn't upset at you, you know! Knowing him, he'll be upset at himself!"
