I tip my hat to your thumbs up. They need to totally start selling top hats again...
Haha, that's pretty funny to see how people change over the course of their life. Always makes me wonder how I will be...:/
How long is the unabridged version? The one I have is 2 hours from online, but to know they abridged the movie?! Le gasp! I hope I am not missing anything good! Nooooooooooo

I tip my invisible hat in reply and completely agree with your assessment. I've been looking for a top hat for a year now. Bloody things are impossible to find in my town. Greatcoats have recently vanished as well, and mine has holes in the elbows...
Quite so. ^-^
The unabridged version is 2.5 hours. The abridged one is missing 30 minutes of footage from various points. If at all possible, I'd suggest hunting up the unabridged version, but it's only on VHS and is a bit old and not in production so quality is pretty much luck-of-the-draw. Mine is a bit banged up but still plays decently enough.

Yeah, I just have a trenchcoat, but I don't think it's the same concept. HOLES?! Unacceptable. Hope you didn't burn them on stoves
I will make sure I keep a look out for that since luckily we still have a VCR player. TO THE GOODWILL. Hurhur

No, not burn holes, holes worn through the fabric from overuse. I've worn this thing solidly from September through March as well as the odd cold evening every year since I got it and the poor thing is dying. Lost a button, the others are held on by the third generation of threads, the black color is slowly turning gray and the elbows have given out.
Careful which version you get if you do, because there is an abridged VHS as well as the unabridged VHS. The brownish one is the cut version, the blueish one is complete.

Aww, man! At least it has been worn from love! You could always add patches for the elbows.
I feel like Javert now! On the hunt for the elusive VHS. Rawr.

Much love, yes. Maybe I'll add some leather patches...
I can send you the Amazon page I got mine from if that helps (Or you can enjoy the hunt, if you'd like, I suppose.)

Painting? Hmmm... I haven't painted in years. That could be fun...

I've been dying to get my watercolors out again, so I'm in a painting frame of mind.

What painting peripherals I posses are sadly not readily on hand. Perhaps I will mess with colored pencils in the interim...

Can't wait to see what you draw.

Feel to voice suggestions, should you have them. (The most common question I ask in R.L is "what should I draw?") Who knows, they could spark something.

Naturally, my answer is more Les Miserables work, but I'd definitely be interested in seeing anything also that interests you.

Any specific sketchbunnies (a term I am determined to strong-arm into common parlance, thank you Zero Punctuation for that phrase X3) you'd like to see?

Let's see...Javert, of course, but I'd like to see what you can do with things such as statues or scenery.

Nyranor In reply to tweedandtea [2011-03-20 04:16:43 +0000 UTC]
Statues and scenery, eh? Hmm... I don't do much non-organic stuff, and I'm deathly lazy so backgrounds are a rarity, but... I did draw four door-sized Roman gods as a project a while ago that look rather like statues (I used statues as references.) I could take pictures of them.
Oh, here's one: I did a quick sketch while listening to my Literature teacher read "I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud" by William Wordswortha while ago that I've been messing with in Photoshop. I could post that.

tweedandtea In reply to Nyranor [2011-03-20 16:21:23 +0000 UTC]
I tend to draw a lot of statues (rarely posted), but I live near a museum, so Roman marbles aren't difficult to come by.
And I'm lazy as well, when it comes to backgrounds. I usually go the Rembrandt moody background look myself!
I'd like to see that!

Nyranor In reply to tweedandtea [2011-03-20 22:21:54 +0000 UTC]
That's cool! I don't really live near anything culturally interesting, so my statue references are all courtesy of Google...
Well, a quick look through my gallery shows just how clever I am with backgrounds. I'm wicked good with the smudgy off-white nothingness.
Well, I could take pictures of two of them, anyway, Pluto and Mercury. I gave Diana and Mars away.

No rush--when you find your camera and post, I'll take a look!

Nyranor In reply to tweedandtea [2011-03-21 01:43:59 +0000 UTC]
I just don't use the thing much. My mother is a photographer and gave me one of her old cameras when she got a new one, so it's pretty nice, but I haven't gotten around to learning how to use it well. It's probably buried under something in my room... good thing it's in a padded case...

tweedandtea In reply to Nyranor [2011-03-21 02:08:21 +0000 UTC]
I'm not much of a photographer myself--my best stuff comes from happy mistakes. I think I have a decent sense of composition, though...I don't know how to use fancy cameras. I have a basic point and shoot (and have had it for five years) and I'm still learning how to use the thing. It would help if I read the directions!
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Nyranor In reply to tweedandtea [2011-03-21 02:24:56 +0000 UTC]
Happy mistakes, that sounds just about how my photography works. My philosophy for when I need to take photos is that if I take a zillion pictures, a few of them might be good. Directions? Hah! My camera has an entire book! ...I haven't opened it.

tweedandtea In reply to Nyranor [2011-03-21 02:25:52 +0000 UTC]
Haha! Same with me--both for the photography, and reading the directions book. They're more like suggestions anyways.

...Suggestions no one's mentioned?
About the painting: I haven't actually painted anything, but I've been told that my newly discovered method of speed-coloring my sketches in Photoshop looks a bit like watercolors. I'm not sure I agree, but still...

tweedandtea In reply to Nyranor [2011-03-21 03:12:09 +0000 UTC]
Well, they are very soft colors, so that's probably where the watercolor comments are coming from.
I like the color.

That makes sense. I guess I was looking at it from the perspective of "good grief, this is messy" and didn't consider that messy isn't necessarily horrible... I'm glad you like it ^-^

tweedandtea In reply to Nyranor [2011-03-21 03:23:47 +0000 UTC]
I'm a very, very messy artist, so I see nothing wrong with coloring outside the lines!

Nyranor In reply to tweedandtea [2011-03-21 03:30:39 +0000 UTC]
I suppose I haven't tried digital coloring recently because my first attempts were just that: trying to color in the lines. Which is just about the hardest, most time-consuming, aggravating task ever in Photoshop. The haphazard method is much nicer.

tweedandtea In reply to Nyranor [2011-03-21 03:35:45 +0000 UTC]
Haphazard works!
Do you use a tablet? It'll make the digital coloring easier, both haphazard and coloring in the lines.

So it seems.
Nope, just my trusty USB mouse. I'd love to get a tablet, but good ones are rather expensive. My mother gave me her old one, but it doesn't really work anymore (the pressure sensitivity is shot) so I don't use it.

By button mouse, do you mean the little knob on some laptops, or a variety of mouse I haven't heard of? (Pardon, I'm not particularly tech-savvy. I use it, I don't understand it )

The little knob on some laptops. I'm not sure what the technical term for it is, either.

I quite like your style in the traditional medium. You have some pieces in your gallery that are very well done. Your art from Les Miserables is enjoyable and appealing. Having read the book, it is a rare treat to see the scenes put down in another form and it's even better to see each scene given justice. I commend you for your work.

Well. You are a great artist and I hope you still draw more Javert images ^^
