Hey no problem - I like your work, its very nice indeed! What kind of gear do you usually use? I'm curious because I just sold off my Canon D30 and am looking to upgrade but kinda stuck between getting a Canon 10D w/ vertical grip or spending a few dollars more for a Canon 20D body. Was also looking into the older Canon EZ series flashes for manual mode but not too sure on that either...

Iβve only had two (real) cameras in my life. First Canon Rebel XS, bought that about fifteen years ago. Loved it, took thousands of pictures with it, (back when each time you pushed the shutter, you knew it was costing a little), it still sets up on a shelf. It came with a 35-80mm lens. I later bought 75-300mm, (but I want to sell it and get the 75-300mm USM IS), then later I bought the 20-35mm USM, (I love that lens, especially on the XS, with no conversion or what ever). Then I got the Rebel Digital and have loved it. Had to buy a new flash for that, so I got the 580, then I bought a 50mm 1.8, that I like to use indoors with no flash.
So thereβs my history. What I want is a new camera body. The problem is that thousands of dollars is a lot to spend, when you know that with digital, a few years down the line, it will be worth a fraction of that and a new 90 megipixal will be out there. So until my kids are out of the house, Iβll settle for maybe the Xi. I would also like the 100mm Macro lens, the ring flash lite, then maybe some day one really wide and one of the fast telephotos, (I could almost justify spending thousands on a lens, because it would work on the next camera body you get).

Yeah, that day will come soon when you can play with some really neat toys. I wish I could afford those nice canon L series lenses but that won't be for a long, long time unless I win the lotto - then we can both get them, heh. Good point on the DSLR tech - prices are falling and you can get a Canon 20D kit with lens for around ~450-500 these days. I know because I just upgraded to a 20D for that much. I also did some research on the Canon 540EZ flash series and found out that I can use it in manual or multi mode while in manual mode for shooting on the newer Canon digital eos bodies. Hows the 580EX's e-ttl work for the rebel? Do you get consistent exposure results? Does it help the rebel's af system focus better in low light? I try to stay away from efs lenses as I like backwards compatability with film bodies and potential newer, full frame digital bodies like the 5d, 1ns, etc. Are you a Canon fan or have you used other brands like Nikon? The Canon EF F1.8 50mm Mark II lens is a great deal for the money. I just try to be careful with it as it feels really really flimsy. I got the import one from B&H since it was a little cheaper. The bokeh is nice too in my opinion and seems nice for portraits.

I think I'll go for the 100mm macro next. Then see what prices look like on a camera body. The 580ex works well. I like the bounce feature. I often set the flash at +1/3 or 2/3 and the camera at -1/3 or what ever, to get different results. I also play around with the multi flash.
I also stay away from EF-S lenses. All I have now work on the old film body and the digital.
Iβve only used canon, (I had a non canon flash, with the film body, it was type B or type A or what ever. I did not work with the digital. I have used a few non canon lenses, but I almost am to the point that Iβm going to stick with Canon only.) Iβm not saying Canon is better than any other, but I have always like what Iβve got from them.
