Thank you for your constructive criticism,
I was completely irrational when writing the post and I let my emotions get in the way.
Thank you for being civil about it as well.

No problem.Β I spent more than 10 years in tech support, and that does teach you an awful lot about how to act professional, whatever your personal feelings are.
Whatever happens, keep your cool.Β It lets you control the situation a lot better than losing it.Β And when you do complain, and who doesn't, do it online under an alias.

No problem. I've seen some really nice sketches from professional artists who do this. One thing is that you get a lot of glare on the screen, especially if the day is sunny, so you will want to take something along to shade your screen.

Hey there what's up?
I see you are a very skilled and inteligent artist. I would like to ask you advice on how I can improve my skills.
I am really eager to do the hard work. I only don't know the "what" I should be working on.
Thank you for your advice

Vineris In reply to MYTHICSONOFGOD [2013-01-08 23:13:17 +0000 UTC]
I'm not sure you are going to find my advice very useful. I didn't learn art the way you guys seem to learn art or want to learn art. I lived in a very remote area and I knew no other artists, I didn't really take art classes (except for the ones you take in school where they make you glue macaroni and beans to cardboard) and there were very few art books available in the library.
So I was bored a lot and had to figure a lot of things out for myself. When I found an art book I would read it like it was made of solid gold. If it said to do something, I would do it. If it said "stand on your head and count to 10" I would seriously consider it. (But I was still a kid so if that didn't help I would just get bored with it and stop.)
So... it's hard for me to advise people who are used to the Internet because you guys have so much information that it paralyzes you. You seem to always worry about what you should be working on and what is the "perfect" thing to do and whether you're "doing it wrong". So much so that half the time you never get around to doing anything! You start something and then you think "OMG what if this is wrong?" and then you go and waste five hours on the Internet looking for guidance. I didn't have the Internet, so I would draw something, and if it looked wrong I'd try to figure out why. And if I couldn't then I'd just go and draw something else.
So here's my advice. You can find exercises to do pretty much everywhere you look. It's not difficult to find a web page that says "draw cubes" or "this is how to do perspective". My advice has to do with the philosophy with which to approach art:
- Be fearless. You're going to make mistakes. You can't avoid them, so learn from them instead.
- Think. Thinking makes you a good artist. Thinking about why something of yours doesn't look right helps you to discover your mistakes. Thinking about how a different artist might have made their picture might teach you a new technique. It's important to be curious about everything.
- Draw more. You don't learn to draw by not drawing.
If you try different things and think about where you went wrong and try to correct it, you will improve. You can't NOT improve. The only way it's possible for you to be stuck in one place is to do the exact same thing again and again.
Now, lots of people have advice about things you HAVE TO do, but I've always figured that you'll do whatever the heck you want, and you'll get around to doing all those recommended things when you discover that they are solutions to specific problems you have. When something is a solution to a problem, you will do it because you want to. I have never wanted to do something just because someone says "do this it's good for you".
Anyway. Hope that helps.

Sure it does thank you for the advice. You read my mind reallly so mich information on the internet is so overwelming .
Woud you believe I started with Loomis when I didn't even understood how to see or think in 3D.
I am so focused on thousans of things that I don't really draw at all!. Thank you, now I seethat I should work first and ask later.
Great advice

No problem. Draw whatever keeps you drawing. There's a lot of information out there, it's all useful, but absorbing it all takes time and you don't have to understand it all today. When you see something new take some time to think about it, see if you can apply it to what you like to draw and your own goals. If you can't, don't worry about it. Look at it again after you've learned a few more things and it'll probably make more sense to you.

Hello, sorry for reminding you. Remember me, sadangrydoll? I changed my name not too long ago. Remember when you said that you looked at my work and said that I need to learn the basics more? Do you mean that I've been learning anatomy and figures quite some times? If you think that way, then thank you, I have been trying to improve. The older art work I have since I can see that now, but when you said that I need to understand the basics a little more, dom you think that I've been lerarning anatomy? sorry for repeating words, I'm kind of stupid. Thanks you for seeing that in my new work.
P.S., How come you don't get enough comments in your artwork? I know you studying art in college, but with your experience, your art is not getting any popular than mine. Sorry about that, hope it goes well next time.

Whoops, I meant to answer this sooner. You are improving. Just keep trying and learning more and you will never stop improving. Learning art takes an entire lifetime. Even if you are good, there is always something you can make a little better.
I don't get comments on my artwork because of the kind of artist I am. Someone once said that every artist gets the fans they deserve, and except for very good and very bad artists, this is mostly true. A friendly artist will get friendly fans. An artist who makes controversial work will get fans who like controversy. And I am a quiet, impersonal artist so I get quiet, impersonal fans. It's okay, it all works out.

It's okay to not answer this comment sooner. You were busy with stuff. I'll bet that you studied in college to become a super artist. I've always wanted to study art in college. I'm in twelve grade. I will try my best to keep on learning. Being a quiet artist is good. I'm not sure what kind of artist I am. Thank you for your kind words. Together, we can both improve.

Oh, I didn't study art in college. I learned from books, and from the internet and by trying things myself. But if you want to go study art in college then I hope you get to do so.
Anyway. Thank you too, and good luck.

Cool. Learning from books is good, but the internet is even better. Trying new things for yourself is also good too. You're welcome for the comment and thanks.
