thank you very much for all the detailed and very usefull comments you have been given to my work recently, especially on my folly series. again all the comments were very helpful. i just have a couple of questions about parts of them which i didnt understand fully:
im guessing that a polorizer is a filter? unfortunatly because i use a digital camera i cant use filters, however soon i might start using a SLR aswell so i will be able to.
also what do you mean by "series installed"?
thanks again
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
grafixdiva In reply to kinderschar [2003-10-16 21:43:15 +0000 UTC]
Yes, a polarizer is a filter that deepens contrasts. When used in combination with a UV filter, it produces deep blue skies and dramatic clouds.
By installing, I meant showcasing them together in a group, either framed ona wall or all of the series encased in the same frame or on the same poster...basically it just means showing them as a series, thought it is normally used specifically when photographs are displayed in a gallery.

Once again I am blown away by your incitefull and technicaly wonderfull comments, Thank you from all of us here in Rick's head I also want to thank you for Fav+ing Pastel River, Its gotten many negative comments for having a lack of focus, but to me I think it works, I can stare at the colors for hours on that particular bank. Well anyway just wanted to let you know I got your comments and they were more than welcome and definatly appreciated
Rick

Rick, for pastel river, I think the importance of the colors takes precidence over the focus. For me that image has the look of a fantasy illustration or an image from a dream and the soft focus of the image only enhances that effect. I also functions in an abstract capacity which I think is very nice. Might be fun to play with different blur levels in photoshop to see what else you can do with the image because the colors are right on. It might be a matter of taste but in this case, I don't mind a little technical imperfection.

Thanks so much for the fav and for adding me to your friends list. As for the comments, no need to thank me, I enjoy doing it. I still have two days worth of catch up work to do but I am getting closer to getting everything on my watch list commented on...probably will get it done tonight but then I am going to Philadelphia for the weekend so I will be behind again by Monday. Gotta stay home a weekend and keep up with DA sometime soon.

Glad my comments are so helpful to you and I thank you for your kind words about my work. I really enjoy giving and receiving feedback on work at DA because it gives me a chance to participate in the world of art and experience the work of fellow artists. Guess that is partially because my job doesn't give me a chance to explore that world anymore.

get a ReplayTV or a TIVO and blammo, that takes care of your tv woes, I assure you. I used to live in Jersey, and yeah, it's a hellhole and the driving is very creative. It still remains, though, one of the few states I would be willing to live in, doesn't that makes sense?

Quirk, don't get me wrong, parts of what I saw were quite lovely. I liked the beach alot although I don't know why people would go in the summer when it is overcrowded with morons but that might just be the photographer in me reasoning that you couldn't get a good picture with all the people in the way.
You have the realize though that my whole experience with New Jersey up to the excursion I took last weekend was Trenton, Camden and Newark...not exactly the most flattering three places in that state if you know what I mean. And the driving was a bit of a turn off since I was with a Jersey driver and she almost got sideswiped twice.

Hmmm, a defensive response. You misunderstand, just becuase I am Sicilian and from Jersey doesn't mean I'm going to come after you with a baseball bat or something for insulting the state. I'm out of Shawshank, out of Jersey, it IS a hellhole, I agree. It's just that Ironically I would live there again before, say, North Carolina or Wyoming or something. I am not insulted, and trust me most Jersey cities are as bad as the ones you were in. The only occasional nice places in Jersey are in Suburbia and On the Princeton University campus.

NOt meant to be defensive...just justified. All in all Jersey is ok...I would prefer to live much further south anyway...Texas, Arizona, New Mexico etc. Even Pennsylvania is losing my interest anymore.

Texas is the last state in the Entire Union that I would live it. New Mexico is nice, Arizona is downright racist. Used to live in Pennsylvania (matamoras right in the corner of NY, NJ and PA). Not a bad state, not great. I live in New York now and love New York through and through.

New York the state is ok...New York the City is just not my thing. Philadelphia is pretty cool and if it wasn't for the fact that the Graphic design market is so small and full, I would probably try to get work there. As it is, I want a hot dry climate and and a whole new place to experience.

I'm overwhelmed by the comments you left on my recent deviations, well thought out and technical, I very much appreciate it, I'm so much the amature photographer, I really never took a class on photography so I know next to nothing on the use of expoture, apeture, the use of contrast or any of that, I just go and shoot what I see as beautiful, I mean there is beauty all around if you just frame it right Heck my picture strange day see, was taken right in the middle of downtown, in a flowerbox, but by looking at the photo you would never know. anyway, thanks again

Well for what it is worth, I have all of one photo class in my past. If there is ever anything in my comments that you would like me to clarify (as in I get to technical) let me know. As for the comments on composition, color etc, that is all my art history background talking...I missed my minor in college by one class because I couldn't fit another art history course into my second semester schedule. I do quite a bit of reading on that kind of thing, mainly painting but I do own books about photographers, architects etc. as well. You would be amazed at what you can learn just by looking at what has worked in art through the centuries.

Never thought I'd be gettin' lenses, but the prospect makes me feel all yummy inside I also hope that you have alot of fun with the filters. I'm interested in seeing how those shots turn out. I was thinking about going by a local photography store here and buying a UV and IR filter, but I want to try the new lenses first, work from there.

Sounds like a plan. I suggest a polarizer as well as the UV filter. Someone told me it is great for creating deep blue skys in color photos. I haven't tried mine out but I have that filter, a UV filter, a red and a green to play with and a few more sitting at the store to be picked up after I get paid next week.

I wish I got paid for my volunteer work, but the lab I do research at is in something of a dry spell. I'll take your suggestion and get a UV, IR and polarizer as my first set of three I'd love to do IR. The environment around here is perfect for landscapes with that kind of a filter.
