Quick question: What do you think about the upcoming Fantastic 4 Fant4stic movie?

Having seen the trailers, I knew it was going to be bad. Watching the movie itself? Yeah, it was just as bad as we thought it was.
Minor spoilers, but the Thing's catchphrase "It's clobberin' time!" comes into play in the most messed up of ways.

I read about that. They botched it pretty bad.
Well, at least, at this rate Marvel will likely get the FF back because Fox loses rights to them after 2022 and I don't see them trying to do another one before then. (Of course that will be like Marvel "Phase 5" but hey, it's something.)

Yeah, I heard they made Fant4stic just to keep the rights to the Fantastic Four, which is also the same reason they made the infamous 1994 unreleased Fantastic FourΒ movie, but the difference is that that one is actually somewhat enjoyable.
What is it about the Fantastic Four that just doesn't translate well to movie form?

It would translate fine if they treated it like an adventure movie instead of a superhero movie, I think. In the comics, they're usually involved with alien cultures, alternate realities, underground monsters, and that kind of thing. I think if it did something like that and maintained the "Avengers" style humor, it would be great. (which is exactly what I think Marvel would do with the movie.)

Yeah, they really are more explorers than they are superheroes. I can't believe they've already planned a sequel despite this one being a box office bomb, though.

I don't think the sequel is going to happen. They might try another reboot but this one was a disaster from start to finish.

They claim to already have the release date for it and everything. They announced it beforehand, as if they were so confident that it would be a hit that they were already in production for a sequel. Have to say, though, from the moment I saw the first trailer I knew this version would bomb.

The only thing that the release date really means is that Fox has reserved it, discouraging other big studios from releasing on it. I seriously doubt that they'll actually see another FF through to completion. I wouldn't be surprised if they added another X-Men movie to their roster in it's place though (which I'd be cool with.)
