Have you looked at device customization? it's a way to use the skills in art and design you already have, and apply them to a new platform - finding all of the secrets and programming holes of a device to make it your own
I found a really interesting way to use pngs, you have one of the few extensive galleries dedicated to pngs that i have found and actually like. - I just got a windows phone, second hand lumia 520 i think, - 8.1 update includes a background on the homescreen that works live with the tiles (which act as app buttons) + a downloadable app called tileart where you can use windows' tiles as inactive stickers with png files that simply sit on top of the background of your homescreen within the grid system. its NICE. i will add a screenshot of what i mean on request!
