Hey man I just saw you post on the Heart of Japan post, and it's sad you are stepping down. I have a question, well 2, One, Have you ever been to Japan before? and Two, would you mind helping me with something involving Fukushima?

Hi there,
Yes I went to Japan in 2009. I visited Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka. And some places in between. It was just amazing. From the giant busy city, to the serene and holy temples, to the old traditional streets of Gion in Kyoto - I loved it all.
I wouldn't mind helping, depending on what's involved. But I can't be on dA much, it'd be best if you send me an email: alan.junior (at) gmail.com

Hello!
Welcome to the #ILoveJapanese family!
We are very happy to have you join us!
If you have any questions then please don't hesitate to ask either myself or ~TheVampireNeko .
Here is a brief summary of what to expect from your administrators:
~Ravyre is uploading flash lessons as often as possible. The next lesson she is working on is about Japanese particles such as ใฏ and ใฎ.
~TheVampireNeko is currently living in Japan and is working on writing some Japanese learning and Japan related blogs for us all to read and enjoy.
~789lol is currently working on a guide to the popular language learning DS game, My Japanese Coach, and should have deviations up soon.
If you have any Japan related art then we'd love for you to upload it and show it off in our gallery.
We don't have many rules, and we have tried to be as flexible as possible, but the few we have made we'd appreciate if you could follow perfectly.
If you have any questions regarding anything then please don't hesitate to ask in the comments box on the group.
Thank you once again for joining #ILoveJapanese . We hope you enjoy being apart of the group as much as we do running it!

Well done on that note to the scary religious girl! I felt exactly the same way. All the traditions in Japan are spiritual, not christian, I was horrified when she said she wanted to increase the amount of christians - in fact meaning she was forcing her religion on them. Well done for putting that point across so well.

Thanks! I really tried to keep it civil and stuff, but that bugged me a bit. I want to see if she writes back haha. She should hang her head in shame. Girl if you read this, no disrespect, but what you plan on doing IS disrespectful in the first place.

You did a really good job of it. I wasn't sure if anyone would reply to it really, and I didn't trust myself. xD

Hey!
Um, just thought I'd say I'm holding a Studio Ghibli contest. The link to my journal is here: [link]
If you could contribute in anyway (even if you just enter) that would be great, and I'm sending this to Lizzie too to ask if it could be advertised on the group, seeing as it's oh so very Japanese.

Congrats on being named founder of the group now! You totally deserve it.
But it also means it's up to you now whether or not my competition is advertised on there? To be honest, as little known as I am, I could use all the help to advertise. xD
So yar, please think it over!

AlanJunior In reply to Dreaming-of-Imi [2011-07-08 01:03:15 +0000 UTC]
Okay, I really don't want to make a journal about it though because it bugs the members. I've got an idea. What if I make a special gallery in the group for competitions, etc, and whoever wants to advertise simply makes a poster type deviation that could be submitted to the gallery with appropriate links to the competition in the description? Because I've been asked more than once to do things like this, but I usually say no. But if we made a special folder for it, they could be submitted as deviations instead of journal entries.

oooo, me likes!
Yeah, because other groups have like, permanent journal things on their site which they update with new competitions and stuff all the time, but it's not a great representation of what the contest is. Sounds good!

AlanJunior In reply to Dreaming-of-Imi [2011-07-08 11:44:27 +0000 UTC]
Okay the new folder is up and active, so, just make your poster and upload it as a deviation, with any links in the description, and submit to the brand new folder. Let me know if you have trouble.
Oh, I also made a group bulletin thingy to let the rest of the team know what the folder is for.

No worries, I have a few Ukiyoe prints on my walls They're only reproductions though, not originals. One day I will own originals! Well I do own ONE original, that I printed myself at the Kyoto Handicraft centre. Are there artists on dA who make ukiyoe and post them? Like original ones?
๐: 0 โฉ: 1
lordratchezlath In reply to AlanJunior [2011-03-16 23:32:05 +0000 UTC]
well, sort of. i personally am trying to make 'original' ones (and want other people to as well!!!), and looking at peoples comments on some of the things ive added to the gallery, other people are interested, and there are a few people who have digitally made their own. theres a guy i watch, who takes fantastic photographs, which im kinda using as reference (i asked/have his permission). i was thinking about folders for finished work maybe divided into original work and copies, tutorials and reference textures/patterns, and photographs to be used as reference (trees, costumes, plants, building styles, etc). and then journal entries would be links to galleries external of DA of real historic artists. my favourites right now are kasui and yoshitoshi. i hope members come with time. ive requested affiliation with a wack of other japan-oriented groups. sorry for wall of text.

yeah, thats why i made it... tough when you want to join a club that doesnt exist. and yes you should
and if enough people show up i think we should have seasonal icon contests for the group avatar. just for kicks.
