Your alters are very inspiring! I love how you have extended the artists' original vision faithfully but also in your own style!

Thanks a lot, LadyS! I feel like I've reached some level over "more than a promise" and less than a "solid artist". Still, no mather how refined my altering capabilities have been in the past, thing is that I'm back and let's see for how long and what i'm capable of doing today. ^_^ (again, thanks for the compliments!) ^_^

Hola Cesar!

Thanks for the compliments! (I was retired for some years so I've just readed this). I'm afraid that I don't count with enough time to do so. Still, I apreciate your sensibility to my work and hope you like the comming stuff. Cheers!

Thanks for the compliments! ^_^
What do you mean? To put the original ruling text of the card in the entry description? It's a great idea. I'll take it in consideration.

Heya!
I'm a big fan of your work and have inspired me to start trying to make my own altered cards.
What brand of fine markers and acrylic paints do you use?
One more thing, do you completely paint over the original pictures when altering the images?
They look less computer-generated and more natural paint on your alters.

A little late, but I owe you a response! First of all, thanks for the compliments. I've been retired for some years of altering, but now I'm back. My favourite acrylics regarding price and quality are the brand "Amsterdam". Fine markers I do use, yes, but just for tiny details and only black 0.05. And for the last question: No, I do add some of my pallete over the original painting, but just a little to create a better transition effect. The idea is to replicate the original pallette as faithfully as possible. It's all about mixing pigments accurately to get the right color, and now that MtG art has became so digital, it's turning into a more difficult work (so adding more color over those so-digital new cards is a way to extend in a more cohesive way, yes). Almost unnecesary with the old era cards. A big hugh and let me know if I can help you in any way.

Hello, Phontsy!
First of all, thanks for your compliments, they make me feel really happy!
About the brands, I'm using a mix off two brands at the moment: "Amsterdam" (I personally like them) and "Pebeo" wich is a brand that here tend to have replacing the colors that they can't get (stores) in the Amsterdam brand. I haven't got any issue mixing both brands (any I can notice, of course)Also, my acrylics are all fluid (and I think I would preffer them over the solid ones even when I haven't tried those last ones yet. Working with fluid is just perfect.)
About the markers, I just use the smallest one I can find here, that's 0.05 milimeters and in black (colored ones aren't being sold here.) and use them just for touching fine details in black (usually it is much better doing it with a 00000 marten's hair pencil and an apropriate mix of black (never use black directly from the bottle. Try to mix a small amount of colour with it.)
Well, that's the shorter response I could give to you, he he.
Anything else you need, just let me know.
Cheers, César. ^_^
PS: I've uploaded a couple of cards I did last week. I hope you like them! (also, the Helm will be on E-Bay as soon as I can fix an issue with my account there.)
Cheers!!

Thanks, Yawg! What a nice surprise you gave me today!
Those kind of things makes me nothing but take my brushes and keep painting.
Thanks again!
César
P.S: I like your work too!
Oh, by the way, what's a Llama Badge and what can I do with it? Lol (thanks anyway! ha ha!)

Awesome, thank you very much
Do you take commissions, Bull?
Llamas are just things you collect on dA.
You can give em for free. I dunno, I give em to everyone haha.

Hey, I've seen this a little late, but just in case, I wanna tell you I'm back on altering, so let me know if you want to ask for any comission. Cheers!

BlackBullo In reply to ninthsphere [2011-07-20 10:46:28 +0000 UTC]
U're welcome,Yawg. ^_^
And yes, I do take commissions. Now I'm working on a five cards commission wich started with Lim-Dûl, continues with a custom art Mimic Vat and a custom backgroud Rosheen Meanderer, and gets crowned with two extensions, Grand Arbiter and Angus Mackenzie. After that (one more week), I'll be free and if there are no commissions, I'll make a custom art Trinket Mage for my collection.
Why are u asking? Are you going to co... commission me?

Yeah, I was thinking about it!
Your stuff rocks, but I need to think of the perfect card to have you do.
I guess I also need to find your price

BlackBullo In reply to ninthsphere [2011-07-24 22:12:23 +0000 UTC]
Well, I feel honored that an artist with your reputation and quality wishes to commission me. Seriously.
About my prices, I think I'm not an expensive "alterist" (J. Froggatt's quote ^_^) I'm charging 25 bucks in cash or 35 bucks in cards, plus the cost of the card (wich, in the case of a single card commission, it's usually better to pay for too, just to save money to the artist. ) Full shipping is taken care by the commissioner, unless it is a big deal, in wich case I'll be paying for the sending back.
That's it. I can't wait to see what idea/card you come up to challenge me.
Cheers,
César.-
