Just like any story, think of the plot of the story. Plan out what happens first, and the ending.
One final note is the development for the reader and the character, and how they get into the relationship.

I think I can do that. I was thinking of the reader seeing Mari lose the First Race and meet her afterwards as she's feeling down about herself.
