Ack your drawings are amazing! Your level of realistic drawing is really cool. I do traditional drawings as well but I don't think they're good enough of deviant art , and yours is no doubt awesome!!

Hello AyuZula! Thank you for the compliments. Improvement is always a possibility for anyone as long as there is determination and action on it. I use the grid method for proportions in my works and for colouring/blending, it's mostly through practice and trial and error. It's also important to believe in yourself before even starting on an artwork!

Oof I never actually considered using grid method I'll try it.
and yeah practice is important but what I want to know is how do you
shade and do the hair so goooood????!!

BrendanPark In reply to AyuZula [2018-12-17 01:32:09 +0000 UTC]
If you meant smoothness in shading/blending, I started out just doing monochrome portraits for a long time, so just focusing on toning with one colour, before I moved on to colours and added just 2 or maximum 3 different colours.
For colouring hair with colour pencils, I work in segments, drawing strand by strand in detail by adding darker shadows and leaving highlighted areas uncoloured. For digital hair colouring, I work in layers, laying in darker colours first, before gradually using smaller brushes for highlights and shadows. When in doubt, there's always youtube for tutorials!

Hello...
A new group has started its journey in DeviantArt ... The group is called Traditional-Masters and is a group for traditional artists who want to publicize their works and know the works of other traditional artists ..
At the moment we are very few because it has just opened the group, but without a doubt we will grow and we will form a great community ... It would be an honor to have your presence in the group ... If you are interested, please sign up and you will be welcome...

From your drawings I see, you already have great variation of control in pencil toning. It works very similarly with colour pencils. You can start off with perhaps blending 2 colours and gradually layer on more colours when you're more confident. The start of colour penciling is quite a trial and error process. I made some mistakes at first too, but you'll learn the "feeling" along the way.

thank you for the reply. im starting to get the feel from the first colored realism drawing ive done, however a direct response from an experienced person always helps. tutorials only go so far, direct mentoring has had the best results for me

You've got awesome sketches! I'm trying to learn the ropes of pencil work in portraiture. May I ask what pencils would you recommend in doing sketches like those?

BrendanPark In reply to Sharp-Eyes28 [2014-07-02 11:19:35 +0000 UTC]
Hi thanks! I enjoy working with 4B graphite mechanical pencils with 0.5mm thickness. It allows me to put in fine details and vary the contrast for shading simply by applying different amounts of force on the paper. Speaking of paper, I use bristol smooth paper instead of the rougher grain ones.
