Cinius In reply to WhatTheHolyScrud [2008-08-21 19:55:05 +0000 UTC]

Yup!
I have a painting of the DC temple in my gallery that I did back when I was thirteen. It's a little mediocre. I don't know; I think my technique has improved within the last few years.

I really like your writings, by the way.

Good to know there's more of us on here.

I've only ever been to four temples: Houston (beautiful), Dallas (an *improved* version of the one in Chicago), Provo, and the one in Temple Square. That said, I've only been inside one, but I've seen four in person, and I got to touch the doors of the one in Temple Square.

Your art is better than mine, regardless.

Thanks, I'm doing that artist challenge thing that's going around dA, just restricting it to poetry (gotta do something to be original), purely because I suck at digital art (and I don't have a scanner or tablet).

Cinius In reply to WhatTheHolyScrud [2008-08-21 22:22:28 +0000 UTC]

It's okay; I such at digital art, too. Actually, I also such at poetry. That's something you have over me. I'm strictly traditional.
Let's see....I have to think about the number of Temples I've seen. I'm pretty sure I've been to the ones in Idaho and Provo when I was a lot younger. I've been to the Palmyra Temple and the Edmonton Temple, but the Washington DC and Kirtland temples are the only ones I've actually been inside of. I live very close to DC, so I see that temple quite often along the beltway.

WhatTheHolyScrud In reply to Cinius [2008-08-21 22:34:45 +0000 UTC]

I'm strictly passable at traditional art, but it's loads better than anything I do on a computer. Traditional art also gives you so much more freedom than what you can do on a computer ("What? You mean I can blend, shade, and make lines with more than two curves?").

Well, I live in Texas, so any and all historical temples are quite far away. I've never even been east of the Mississippi (I've never quite understood how the longest river on the continent [or maybe just the country, I don't remember] is only four letters long.), so, yeah. The DC temple is beautiful, though.

Cinius In reply to WhatTheHolyScrud [2008-08-21 22:49:24 +0000 UTC]

I live about eight hours away from Palmyra and Kirtland, so we alternate and go to those historic places for Youth Conference. I've never been to Texas, but I hear it's beautiful.

WhatTheHolyScrud In reply to Cinius [2008-08-21 22:57:37 +0000 UTC]

Each time I've gone to a youth conference, it was just a good excuse to get the whole stake to go camping. Last YC, we went on a Pioneer Trek. The one before that, we did service projects, and camped.

Texas is beautiful, there's no other place you can compare it to. As far as I know, at least.

Cinius In reply to WhatTheHolyScrud [2008-08-21 23:01:36 +0000 UTC]

I think everyone does the Trek. YC is a really big thing for our stake and we always go to other places. We have A LOT of youth, though-- about 300 went to Palmyra this year, and that is only counting the 14-18 year olds.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

WhatTheHolyScrud In reply to Cinius [2008-08-21 23:11:37 +0000 UTC]

Since 87, I think they've been trying to get stakes all around the world to do it. Arizona got it first, I think.

We had a bunch of youth (couple hundred), too, and the camera guy at Trek took thousands of pictures (quite literally. Not exaggerating in the slightest. At most, I'm understating it), so it seemed we had more.

I still keep in touch with my Trek Family (the ones I can, anyways). Their choice for who to put in our family was quite amusing. All the other families had, at most, two people who knew and were friends with each other. In ours, everyone was already friends with at least two of the others. I was already friends with four of the others, and one of the girls knew everyone except one or two of us.

Oh, you had the opportunity, well that's different. I know exactly one person who refused to go, and he's felt really left out of everything since. He's young enough to go next time, though.

Cinius In reply to WhatTheHolyScrud [2008-08-22 03:06:10 +0000 UTC]

Well, I went to a governor's art school that was at the same time as YC. I'm young enough to go to the other trek next year, too, but I'll probably be at college by then.

At our stake they have one every four years.

And I've always wanted to take up a serious art class, but three years of art in school gave me no improvement, so...

I never took art in school until senior year. I wasn't taught it. I was accepted into regional gov school because of what I already did. you could be taught art if you wanted to!

my poetry skills...well, let's not go there.

My poetry is good, but it's all of the same- romance or dark depressing stuff. I'd like to branch out, but I'm just not good with a lot of other subjects.

Just checked it out, and that's creepy.

It looks great. You're built manly. I'm tall and underweight. Not good.

You should branch out. I've actually tried poetry.

Creepy? Yeah, I see that. Manly?? Hm...well, I am a female. Seventeen, tall, slightly underweight, but female.

Still...I guess I do sort of let off a manly vibe.

It's a good thing. I'm not sure how to say it, but, if you want to get right down to it, girls who can pull that look off are more my type, I guess.

Lawl.
