Well, this is awfully rare - a Kefka fangirl (a Kefka/Terra fangirl, at that) who likes FF7. O;
I'm tired of the neverending rivalry between the two games (more specifically, their villains). x.X Thank you for being different.
Also, Kefka/Terra is awesome and underrated. ]:

I like them both, too. q.q
I mean, I get why it's them specifically, but I just wish the fandom rivalry would stop. The day somebody can post Dancing Mad without everybody and their mother commenting on how it's better/worse than One Winged Angel is the day that the human race achieves enlightenment and is the beginning of an eternal utopia in which everybody is happy and all is perfect.
Sadly, this day will never come.
Ah yes, K/T. I'll never quite understand why there are only two goodfics of them in this language. I imagine they're a hard pairing to write well, but still.
At least there's fanart.

I'm very sorry for the delay.
It's great to know people who like them both, I'm still wondering why it has to be so rare. And yes, that's particularly annoying, especially on YT and here on DA. At least we can hope that more people will realize how good both FFVI and VII and their villians are.
Yes, there's fanart, at least we have something. By the way, which two goodfics are you referring to? I've read a few on FFnet, but I'm not sure if they are the same. (I'm working on my own fanfics, I hope I can get to finish and upload them).

Oh, no problem at all!
There do exist some people, but for the most part you have the VII fanboys who say it's the best and the VI fanboys who say it's better than VII. Oddly, the fangirls aren't the problem. Sure, VII has standard fangirl fare (some sane, some insane, but they're easier to ignore), but VI's fangirls are some of the nicest people I've ever met.
Yeah, they're on FF.Net. Witherbane (Dissidia) and The Lion and the Unicorn, which you've probably read. If not, GO. NOW. I COMMAND THEE.
Really? I'm slowly piecing a fic together, too! I've got it mostly plotted out, but connecting the plot points is a challenge. x__X

Well, my experience has been rather the opposite. I get along quite well with FFVII fangirls (except for 'certain' Sephiroth/Genesis shippers who are heavy Cloud bashers). FFVI fangirls, on the other hand... Well, to say sometimes I don't even want to upload my stuff. I guess it has to do with this fandom rivalry between Terra and Celes, and while Terra fans are usually very nice people, Celes hardcore fangirls usually hate Terra, either because she's the protagonist and Celes wasn't chosen for Dissidia (and Duodecim, and Theatrhythm, and FF Brigade...) and they don't miss a chance to either say that Celes is better than Terra, or that Terra just sucks. Of course, not all Celes fans are like this and I do know a few very nice Celes fangirls, but it's a strong tendency among her fans and it's a big turn off.
Ahaha, I did read those! Amazing. I'm actually re-reading both. I'm surprised you mentioned Witherbane, I thought I was the only one who read that one. I've been exchanging PMs with its author, she's a very cool person apart from a K/T shipper, it seems.
Oh, you're serious? That's so... I feel overjoyed! ;_; Of course I'm not going to ask you to give away your plot, but if you don't mind me asking more general questions, like: is it a oneshot or a multi-chapter? Will you include adult content? Pre-game Kefka, pre-insanity Kefka or a completely nuts Kefka? Oh yes, is it set in Dissidialand or FFVI? I'm thrilled *_*
As for my fics, one is a smutty oneshot (finished and currently being grammar-checked by my older sister, which means I have to wait because she's always busy ), and the other one I have finished is another oneshot, not smutty but it needs a serious revision (the wordcount is over 9000!) And the multi-chapter fics, those will take an awful lot of time ._.

I haven't actually spoken to many VII fangirls, so I'm just making assumptions based on what I've seen. All I know is, "SHIP WARS SCARY. STAY ALERT."
Hm, I haven't run into any Terra/Celes bashers. I don't really prefer one over the other, but Terra's definitely the closest thing VI has to a protagonist. As uncyclopedia puts it: "Terra is not the main character of the game [...] she's the character you start the game with, and happens to have double the amount of playtime than the other characters. She also happens to be the only character in the box-art. And the title. 70% of the game also happens to be all about her. However, she isn't the main character."
I do agree that it would've been nice to have another VI character in Duodecim, but Celes wouldn't really work for gameplay reasons. She'd only be slightly different from Terra. Edgar, Shadow, Setzer, and maybe Relm are the only real options there.
That's not particularly surprising; I've noticed that a lot of people that ship "creepy" pairings are some of the nicest, most interesting folks out there. I'm sure there are exceptions, but it seems to be the rule.
Multi-chaptered, completely nuts, it was originally going to be a lime but things changed, and FFVI. When I first considered the idea of the pairing, I couldn't figure out how in the hell it would work without changing what's been implied about their history together (well, unless it took place in Dissidialand). I finally thought of something and it evolved into a complex, plot-driven THING that focuses on the entire cast. I'd be happy to answer any questions you have.
Well, be sure to let me know when they're done. ^__^ I'm still refining the plot of mine. I'm gonna throw back the questions you asked about mine, though. I'm curious!

I can't stand pairing wars most of the time, but for some reason I find the Cloti/Cleris war particularly funny, hah, don't ask me why, I don't know xD
You haven't? You're so lucky! I liked Celes quite much, she was starting to be cool and then Solitary Island came and killed most of the sympathy I had for her. I still like her a little; I'm just not a fan.
"Terra is not the main character of the game [...] she's the character you start the game with, and happens to have double the amount of playtime than the other characters. She also happens to be the only character in the box-art. And the title. 70% of the game also happens to be all about her. However, she isn't the main character."
I LOVE this quote, so true. And the game's main theme is named after her, something doesn't happen not even with the 'undisputable' protagonists of any other FF.
Celes wasn't even considered for Dissidia, Nomura said if it wasn't Terra there wouldn't be any female in Cosmos' side, which says pretty clearly that Celes wasn't even on their waiting list. And when he was asked why Terra, he replied something like: 'I didn't have a reason not to choose her', in a way that totally sounded like 'why are you even asking me this?' Well, Locke was included in Theatrhythm and Brigade, so perhaps in a future Dissidia game he'll be there; protecting Terra instead of the Onion brat (I hope so).
Open-minded people are the most interesting folks out there
Alright, I almost died of happiness when you said you're writing a multi-chaptered K/T, oh god... This is like too good to be true
"It was originally going to be a lime but things changed"
Things changed like what? Rating went lower or higher?
What do you mean what's implied about their history? As far as I can tell, the only thing that's implied there is that Kefka put her the Slave Crown and made her fry fifty imperial soldiers, and I do believe he did it following Gestahl's orders (ok, maybe the fifty soldiers thing was his own idea xD), it was Gestahl after all who killed her mother, used her father as power source, abducted her as a child, sent her to Narshe and then sent Kefka to Figaro to retrieve her, and decided to leave her be on the enemy side so she would open the gate. I'm not saying Kefka didn't agree, only that Gestahl's the main responsible for all the sh*t she went through most of her life.
Oh my, I don't know what would be appropriate to ask. Hmm, I'll start with the obvious, I guess: does it more or less follow the game storyline; does the plot begin before the events of the game, and how many chapters do you have approximately planned?
Well, let's see. The smutty one is a oneshot, Kefka is quite nuts although it's a bit AU-ish with a different approach to the slave crown (no, Terra is NOT wearing a slave crown during the smut xD)
The other oneshot that only needs to be revised and edited is a rather long one from Kefka PoV. I go through their whole pre-game relationship as I picture it; Kefka goes progressively more insane as time goes by. It has mild sexual references but no smut, I'll probably rate it M anyway just to be safe. I'm quite proud of this one, I dare say.
Hey, I also wrote a oneshot featuring his Imperial Majesty! And it's from Gestahl PoV, first-person even. Needs heavy edition but I'm DYING to upload this one.
About the long-fics, one is AU, the other set pre-game (with the creepiest Kefka I ever wrote ) and the other a 'what if' fic. Yeah, those three are the most likely to be completed. Anyway, my Kefka is always creepy and nuts ahaha, I hope I'm doing it right, though, well, I guess I'll leave that to your judgement

Ship wars are hilarious when you don't ship anything. Honestly, FF7 is probably the only fandom I'm in in which I ship absolutely nothing. I don't like or dislike any pairings. Cloti, Clerith, Cloud/Sephiroth, Zack/Cloud, Valenwind, Sephiroth/Genesis/Angeal, ANYTHING. It's the strangest thing. Alright, MAYBE a bit of Cloud/Terra, but I ship everyone with Terra. Besides, that's Dissidia. ]:
I didn't like her much when I played the game, but then I read Lina Darkstar's translation of the game and decided I really liked her overall character arc. I understand where people are coming from when they say they don't like her, though. I guess I've always had a thing for stoic warrior women who slowly open up and fall in love.
If I remember correctly, it was announced that Duodecim would be the last in the Dissidia series. There might be more crossovers, sure, but that was the last fighting game. I suppose that future protagonists and villains will be added via DLC? And ugh, I'm so happy that I'm not the only one who couldn't stand the Onion Knight. He's a useful assist and I like his play style, but I can't stand his personality or relationship with Terra.
Oh, absolutely.
Hah, well, it probably won't be done for ages. I'm a slow writer. x.X Still, I'll finish the entire thing before posting it, so you'll never have to worry about it dying.
Lowered when I made the shift from character-driven shipping fic to plot-driven drama. Heck, the way the plot's set up is that it's a spoiler to even say that it's the "main" pairing.
In Lina Darkstar's translation, Terra's line during the Narshe fight scene seemed to imply they didn't know each other very well before he put the slave crown on her. It was along the lines of, "So that's Kefka, the man who put the slave crown on me . . . ," and I'm not sure if there's any way that that can mean they had any sort of close relationship beforehand. Bit of a shame, but there's always Dissidia, I suppose.
Ask whatever you like.
Oddly, it takes place 5 years after the game. Anything beyond that is a bit spoilery, but I think it's rather easy to put two and two together here to figure out what I'm going for (I'm pretty sure I've made it work at least a bit plausibly, though, and I'm very stingy when it comes to justifications for plot devices).
I have no idea how many chapters it'll be. 15, maybe? 20? Wordcount will probably be over 50k by the end, though.
My thoughts: sexy; fascinating; DEFINITELY interesting (Gestahl's always been a bit of a boring character and I like when boring characters are turned interesting in fanfic); sweet; tell me more.

Dea-Noctis In reply to x-Pandemonium [2012-11-03 07:46:06 +0000 UTC]
I have no idea why I find it so hilarious, because I'm a hardcore Cloti/Zeris shipper, oh and I ship way too many pairings in FFVII because I love every single character in the whole compilation, which is... odd. I usually stick to fewer pairings for each fandom, maybe only one (which is the case with K/T) but FFVII, I don't know...
I can tolerate most Terra pairings in general, so I don't mind Cloud/Terra or any other, but I only ship her with Kefka and I only ship Kefka with Terra (in this case, I can't stand any other Kefka pairing but meh, they're easier to ignore )
I appreciate Lina Darkstar's translation and I'm grateful to her for taking the time and effort, but sometimes I found her marginal comments a bit, err, distracting. Besides, she's done that translation in 2005 if I recall correctly, and there were many things about the characters that she got wrong because the western fandom still didn't have much access to the Japanese-only material (Kefka's age and her assumption that he was infused at the same time with Celes, for instance). Her translation didn't make me like Celes more, rather the opposite probably, and I understand her character may be appealing to most JRPG fans, but I personally prefer the quiet, sweet type who's not perfect in everything she does. I decided to give her character a chance after I read Witherbane, Celes' portrayal there is just too likable
"He's a useful assist and I like his play style, but I can't stand his personality or relationship with Terra." Same here xD And I can't stand the OK/Terra pairing.
Hmm, forgive me if I insist, but is it because you think a sexual scene will diminish the overall quality of your story? I know some authors refrain from including smut for this reason, so I wonder if it's your case.
"In Lina Darkstar's translation, Terra's line during the Narshe fight scene seemed to imply they didn't know each other very well before he put the slave crown on her. It was along the lines of, "So that's Kefka, the man who put the slave crown on me . . . ,"
And this is exactly what I meant before. Terra hasn't recovered her memories during the Narshe scene, how on earth would she know anything else about him besides his name (that she's been hearing all along since she joined the Returners) and the fact that he put the crown on her (which she saw during the flashback)? That's why I like Kwhazit's translation better; too bad it was left unfinished
This is Terra's line: ãąããŦâĶ
ãį§ãŦãããĪããŪ螊ããĪããâĶïž
And Kwhazit's literal translation: Cefca...
He put the manipulation ring on me...?
I don't understand where Lina got the conclusion that they have never spoken to each other before from those lines, even more considering Terra has amnesia.
Oh, I also have some idea for a post-game KT, but I want to work on my on-going projects before I start a new one ._. I just hope it's not the same idea!
That's quite long, awesome! I'll try to be patient haha, hmm, but I do want to ask. I'm too intrigued now. Is it from a particular PoV? Which genre? Any other pairing besides KT? Will there be battle scenes or is it a more introspective type of fic? Are you planning a happy ending? (Sure, don't answer to this one if you consider it too spoiler-ish xD)
I don't know what else to say, you may ask me and I see if it doesn't ruin surprises

Sorry, I missed the latter half of your question.
It's both, actually. There's plenty of character development and introspection, but there is an antagonist that needs to be defeated.
As for the ending, I suppose bittersweet-ish?

Dea-Noctis In reply to x-Pandemonium [2012-11-06 03:09:04 +0000 UTC]
I see, so Kefka's not the villian this time. Interesting.
In my book, a bittersweet ending for a romantic tale means a member of the couple dies, or no one dies but they still can't be together for some reason or another But it's fine, I can't really imagine a happy ending for Kefka and Terra.

x-Pandemonium In reply to Dea-Noctis [2012-11-03 08:29:35 +0000 UTC]
I'm a very odd shipper. I love FF7 and all its characters, acknowledge Zeris and Cloti as canon (Clerith may have been canon but SHE DIED), but don't actually ship anything. Then there's FF6, which I love about the same, where it takes next to nothing for me to ship something. It's the strangest thing. Sure, there's plenty of middle ground (mostly among anime fandoms - Naruto comes to mind), but it tends to be one or the other.
My odd multishipping even extends to him just because he can have hilarious tsundere-ish relationships with, well, anyone. Still, since you don't like other Kefka ships, I'll just leave it at that.
I tended to ignore the commentary and draw my own conclusions based on the script, actually. To me, it seemed as if Celes had been raised exclusively as a soldier of the Empire (hence the "nobody has ever known the woman behind the mask" business) and her character arc was about, well, working past that. Her relationship with Locke rather annoyed me at first, but I suppose it makes sense that she'd fall in love with the first person to whom she opens up.
Me neither, and that's WEIRD for me. I dunno, I think Zidane would've made a lot more sense in his role. You know, thief that likes women and all. Besides, interaction between Terra and Kuja would've been pretty interesting to see. Kuja's a more interesting villain (my favorite in the series, actually - Kefka and Sephiroth are second and third, respectively) than the Cloud of Darkness and has some things in common with Terra that would have been interesting to explore.
Nah, it's because I changed the way their relationship evolves and they never really get a chance to, ah, consummate their feelings for one another.
Like I said, I mostly ignored the commentary (except for bits relating to speech patterns) and drew my own conclusions. Aside from that one scene, Kefka never seemed *too* intent on getting her back - I never really saw anything implying his feelings for her went beyond, "hey that's mine I want it back." Sure, character interpretation is subjective, but that's what I felt the game was implying.
Well, considering how complicated the plot is here and how many OCs there are (no canon characters really fit for the villain I have in mind), I'm sure it'll be at least slightly different. Let's assume it is exactly the same: do we combine our talents and produce something amazing or race each other to see who can finish first?
Ask away!
Third-person omniscient, and I suppose drama (drama/romance for the second half)? Locke/Celes since, well, that's canon, MANY platonic relationships, and Edgar/OC on the side.
And no, the OC is most definitely not a sue. It's barely even touched upon. See, what happened was when he turned 30, he got a bit freaked about whether or not he'd ever marry (being king, he needs to produce heirs) and eventually met a girl he really liked (a random noblewoman from Jidoor). Unfortunately for her, he was still extremely, well, Edgar, so she got fed up and left (played FF9? think Cid and Hilda). This all happened before the start of the fic. He misses her, she's brought up several times, and they get back together at the end.
Alright, I'll start with an easy one: what's the basic premise of the "what-if"?
ð: 0 âĐ: 1
Dea-Noctis In reply to x-Pandemonium [2012-11-06 03:56:59 +0000 UTC]
I'm not sure about Cleris, I have the impression that the real Cloud didn't harbour that kind of feelings for Aeris, rather the Zack inside him was driving him to her. But I wouldn't like to start a debate between us, it's only fun when others do it
Well, usually when I like something so much I ship a lot. I don't like FF6 the same way I completely and utterly adore FF7, but some of FF6 characters I truly love (say, Kefka, Terra, Ultros, Edgar...) on the same level, it's just that the overall plot didn't convince me. But! That's what makes writing FF6 fanfics such a fulfilling experience, because I tend to see FF6 as a game with a lot of potential that wasn't properly explored, therefore fanfics are the only thing that can fill the void left by the, um, questionable character development. I love FF7 fics but when it comes to write, FF6 comes more naturally to me (probably because I identify with Kefka and like to write from his PoV, I don't know).
How's multishipping? Please, tell me about your overall experience. That's something I cannot get myself to do. I do ship a lot in FF7 but the pairings I ship don't interfere with one another and character A belongs with character B and there's no place for C between them xD So I can't understand, would you mind to explain me? There's something I call 'fandom jealousy' that gets in the middle I guess Anyway, not all pairings with Kefka annoy me, most of them I just ignore and that's all; probably Celes and Leo (and omfg, Gestahl) are the ones I consider the worst matches for him (and it might have to do with the fact that those are the kind of people ~I~ wouldn't date. Identification with fictional characters is a baaad thing).
Celes... In the game, she strikes me as pretty much a Mary Sue. And fanfics don't help. As I said, Witherbane gave me a different perspective, and it'd probably surprise you, but I like to work with her in my fics, she shows up a lot, usually as a main character haha. But hey, it's not the same if I'm the one in charge!
Yes, I think Zidane would've been a better choice. OK was probably chosen because he's a kid (and Terra has a special connection with children), and since he's a kid there wouldn't be romantic implications meddling in their platonic relationship (not that it actually prevents people from shipping them xD)
Poor Kefka, no consummation ;_;
It's still remarkable that Terra was the only person besides him that he ever gave a damn about, because he didn't seem to care about anyone but his supreme self. Err, I blame it on bad character development, too, or lack of it thereof. I also have a theory regarding Floating Continent and why I believe Terra was originally going to be there and was later replaced by Celes (it's so freaking plausible it makes my brain cry just thinking about it).
I have the answer for the rest of your message written down but, would you mind if we discuss the plot-related details in private (notes work here as PMs, I assume)? Not that I really believe someone will bother to read this conversation, but it makes me feel uneasy anyhow

x-Pandemonium In reply to Dea-Noctis [2012-11-06 07:54:48 +0000 UTC]
I don't really have an opinion about whether or not Cleri(s/th) was canon or not, anyway. It might have been the real them, it might have just been subconscious Zeri(s/th). I'm sure they would have liked each other regardless, but still. Shipping wars are always fun to watch from a distance, anyhow.
I suppose it's just a matter of liking two "opposing" ships equally. It's easier with non-canon ships since you never really feel forced to choose and just decide you like Character A with Character B and/or C, so you'll be happy to read fanfic of both. It's a little hard to explain.
I get the appeal for Kefka/Leo and Kefka/Celes, but Kefka/Gestahl . . . no. Sure, Kefka seemed to actually respect the guy, but it was more likely an odd, warped, one-sided father/son-esque relationship. I draw the line at parentships, even if it's not biological.
Eh, I dunno about Mary Sue since Sues tend to be *shallow* perfect characters that the plot centers around for no real reason (at the very least, Celes was two-dimensional), but I do get why people may not like her. I, personally, think it would've been more interesting if we had first met her when she was still a general.
I can see that, but the problem was that it wasn't really the motherly, protective relationship she had with the Mobliz kids, either. HE was the one protecting HER. It was like they tried to mesh her relationship with Locke with her relationship with the kids and it ended up as some kind of bizarre, character-ruining mush that just made Terra look weak.
Well, her and Gestahl. There had to be some reason he didn't actually turn on him until he was betrayed, after all. And maybe Celes, but who knows what their relationship was like before she turned on the Empire. As for his relationship with Terra, it seemed rather clear to me that he viewed her as little more than a doll, which isn't really caring about her so much as caring about an empty shell.
You mean the "MAKE ME MAGIC BABIES" scene? Interesting. Tell me more. My headcanon's always been that Terra's infertile due to her mixed heritage, but that's just headcanon.
Nope, he's not, and there's a reason for that that I, too, would prefer to discuss via PM. Do you have MSN or should we just switch to notes? The meta reason is just that I hate recycling villains. OH NO, MR. EVULZ IS BACK AND AT IT AGAIN! CAN OUR VALIANT HEROES STOP HIM AGAIN AS HE DOES THE EXACT SAME THING HE DID LAST TIME?!?!
One of those is sort of half-right. I could write a "happy" ending if I wanted, but, aside from being less interesting, it would take a deus ex machina and some liberties with characterization. Besides, the way I see it, if I make enough people feel something for them, they might go off and write fics of their own. That's the plan, anyway.

Yay! You're welcome
He's so much better, not only appearance-wise but personality-wise. I can tolerate his Dissidia incarnation but I won't fangirl to it xD
