Oh, im curious in a few things about Brandt, can you tell me who were Rudi's friends and enemies (i mean, if he ever had)? For example, I know Kersten considered him as a friend.
and did he ever said something about what he thought about Himmler?
I'll very grateful if you know anything about this.
π: 0 β©: 1
DeirdreBrennan In reply to ShinjuMarkez [2012-04-12 12:57:20 +0000 UTC]
Well, his friends were:
- Kersten (of course)))));
- Schellenberg (Walter mentioned that in his memoirs):
- Gerhard Herrgesel (the stenographer from OKW, his close friend since childhood, they were classmates and even lived together for some time);
- Josef "Sepp" Tiefenbacher, the chief of the SS Field Staff;
- August Meine (Rudi's assistant, who had a deep respect to his chief);
- Hanna Reitsch;
- Erna Ladewig (his neighbour, who was the anti-faschist, as well as her husband);
- and some others (I may remember them later).
Well, he had many friends, as he was a nice and intelligent man).
The enemies:
- Heydrich (hated and despised him greatly);
- Kaltenbrunner;
- maybe (not sure!) Ohlendorf.
Well, I don't know what did he think of his chief, - he was quiet enough not to express that.
Happy to answer you.)))

Oh, great info really!
So, Brandt didn't like Heydrich and Kaltenbrunner at all, like many other people. Too bad he didn't say anything about Heini ever. But I'm sure that he appreciate him very much, since he was one of the most trusting person for Himmler.
Good to know he keep friendly to his childhood mate! that means a lot of him.
Many thanks for the data! :3

DeirdreBrennan In reply to ShinjuMarkez [2012-04-12 19:56:56 +0000 UTC]
Well, I can't say he didn't say anything of Heini EVER, but I have never read of his opinion.
Hardly ever could he like Heydrich (who had tried to get rid of him) and Kaltenbrunner, of course, but one is certain: he was afraid of them. If Heydrich could do that, he would have killed our Rudi in a painful and horrible way.))))
Rudi and Gerhard had stayed friends till Rudi's death. All I know about Gerhard is: in 1978 he was alive.
Ask anything you want, I'll be happy to answer.

Why Heydrich wanted to get rid of Brandt? Is there any reason?
π: 0 β©: 1
DeirdreBrennan In reply to ShinjuMarkez [2012-04-12 21:19:21 +0000 UTC]
Of course. Rudolf didn't obey him, Himmler was the only man to give Rudi orders. And Heydrich wanted to replace him by someone who would.

ShinjuMarkez In reply to DeirdreBrennan [2012-04-12 22:48:49 +0000 UTC]
Aw~, the way you said that makes me think he was very loyal to Himmler.
Heydrich was a very chilling person for sure.
BTW, Rudi's eyes were dark brown? And what about that scar on his face? What do you know about it?
π: 0 β©: 1
DeirdreBrennan In reply to ShinjuMarkez [2012-04-13 12:17:43 +0000 UTC]
He was loyal to Himmler, but that wasn't the matter of sympathy, I suppose.
Yes, he had brown eyes, but not very dark. On the most of his photos he just has the pupils enlarged (well, problems with health, you know). Maybe they were hazel, like Jeschonnek's eyes, or just simply brown, but not coffee-brown (awwwww...).
Well, I've heard a rumour that he had a duel when he was a student, and he had his cheek and his neck (he also had a severe scar on the neck, btw) cut. He had all the chances to be killed then, but he survived. I don't guess when exactly did that event take place, but at the age of 24 he already had all those scars.

ShinjuMarkez In reply to DeirdreBrennan [2012-04-13 21:50:06 +0000 UTC]
Oh, brownish eyes. I see ... Well, to me, he doesn't seem to have been a troublesome boy, so maybe someone bullied him when he was young. What kind of health problems did he have?
π: 0 β©: 1
DeirdreBrennan In reply to ShinjuMarkez [2012-04-13 22:17:48 +0000 UTC]
Well, he was of the defenseless nature, so everything could happen. He was a quiet and a modest boy, nice and gentle. Gerhard remembered that Rudi was also a very religious person, he often prayed to God, - but I don't know whether he was a Catholic or a Protestant. I think he was Catholic.
What kind of health problems? Plenty of them. Well, problems with blood- and intracranial pressure, a severe myopia and the ulcer (he had to keep a diet, and that had nearly brought him to death after his arrest) would form the shortest list.
π: 0 β©: 1
ShinjuMarkez In reply to DeirdreBrennan [2012-04-13 22:41:13 +0000 UTC]
which Gerhard said that? Karl Gebhardt?
Oh, he had many health problems. So, if he had not received the punishment of death in the trial, he surely would have died from ulcer problems later?

DeirdreBrennan In reply to ShinjuMarkez [2012-04-14 08:19:16 +0000 UTC]
Gerhard Herrgesell, his former classmate.)
Yes, everything was very serious. He had no chance to live a long life, he was too ill. Poor Annemarie...

DeirdreBrennan In reply to ShinjuMarkez [2012-04-14 16:35:31 +0000 UTC]
Maybe. I've tried to end my existence once, and i am still sorry I didn't succeed.
And Rudi... he loved life. Though it meant constant pain to him. He was burdened with work, but he was hoping that once he would have a chance to spend more time with his wife and children, to dedicate all his attention to them. But that never happened. He loved them, but...
...but his daughter never saw him. She was a year old when he was arrested...

ShinjuMarkez In reply to DeirdreBrennan [2012-04-14 16:41:28 +0000 UTC]
Oh, yeah, that's really sad! Many families of the war, share that same story
Life is priceless! Do not ever try that again. Many others would like to have the chance to live, Think about Rudi, he would like to have the chance.
π: 0 β©: 1
DeirdreBrennan In reply to ShinjuMarkez [2012-04-14 17:19:36 +0000 UTC]
Well, he would have wanted to be with his Annemarie, Jurgen and Elke for all his life. If I only could, I would have given my chance to someone like Rudi or anyone else who dies but who is willing to live. Unfortunately I can't even be a donor.)))
Once I was fascinated by Brandt just because he loved life that much. He was ill, suffering, but willing to live and always cheerful. He is a good example.)))
