the playstation is a short cube, but the playstation 2 is my best 3D hama, it has a lots of beads
and i share it to you, because i made the gamecube, the wii, and other 3D perlerbeads with your tutorials
you´re really awesome
if you wanna make a playstation 2 as the mine i could help you a little sending photos of the parts whose i made, but there´s some methods to make an awesome and bigger PS2
i didn´t use tutorials, and i never found a 3D bigger playstation 2 as mine

Oh man, I've hardly touched beads in the past 2 years! I've replaced them with Legos and, as you mentioned, 3d printing. Two projects I'm working on right now - Legodelphia (Philadelphia built out of Legos in the Architecture style) and redoing my Edward Scissorhands gauntlets for the 4th time, this time using highly accurate CAD models and 3d printing for the blades, and possibly also for the hand molds.

Well good to see you're still keeping creative man!  I've been wanting to do some work with Legos as well lately, but that project of Legodelphia sounds amazing and freaking epic.  Which is awesome cause you are quite one for going above and beyond the normal scale of a craft!  Nice to hear you're also continuing with 3d printing, I couldn't imagine how much fun I'd have with one of those haha.  I love to create 3d models myself and have been doing things like that since I was in like 8th grade, using Caligari Truespace 3D. 

Anything else new with you man?  Are you doing the Legodelphia project for anything specific?  Like as in for on display somewhere sort of thing?  Commission?

Legodelphia is just for fun. I basically had a Lego kick and got all of the Star Wars sets I've always wanted, then moved on to the Architecture series and ran out of sets to do, so I started using the Lego Digital Designer program to design my own sets, started with Liberty Place in Center City Philly then it got out of hand, lol. Right now I have all of Center City,  Rittenhouse Square and east all the way to Broad Street done in the LDD program, and I also have the Convention Center and a few blocks east and south of there done as well. I've built most of Center City out of white Lego pieces since getting my hands on all of the colors would be a hassle, plus it looks more refined and professional, like an actual architectural model in all one color. I'll probably be posting some pictures of it on DA soon, I've been holding off until I knew how far I was taking it lol. At this point, I'm game to build all of Philly if funds permit, but we'll see how far it goes.

That seriously sounds bad ass, and yeah I def agree that all in white blocks would look real sleek.  Reminds me also of making clay renders in 3dsmax, and how just clean it would look all being one base texture.  Also think it will help focus much of the art of it towards the architecture rather than the coloring, etc.  Never heard of this LDD program though.. but I'm very interested haha.  Is it available for free?  Something you can order Lego blocks from Lego Co. of your digital creations?  Cause THAT would be amazing.  Build something online out of e-legos, then once done they ship you all the needed shapes and chosen colors!  xD

Am for sure looking forward to seeing some of the pics once you get them uploaded, and know what you mean about wanting to hold off a bit on sharing.  And you know once you do, people will flip and exclaim to keep building it bigger and bigger haha.

Well I decided to upload it, lol. Just the first few blocks that I did a month or so ago, and I'll upload 'delayed progress' as I make more. I'll also post some 'teaser' screenshots of the digital model from LDD. It's a free program from Lego but it unfortunately doesn't provide a parts list or automate any kind of ordering. You can, however, get a piece count - either total, type, color or color & type together. You can also group pieces together, which is helpful for keeping track of each block of the city. Lego.com does a pick a brick so you can find pieces there according to type or by part number (which LDD also has for every piece), however it's overpriced and takes forever to ship (a few weeks).

I recommend Bricklink.com. There, you can search by part and color, then they show you a list of user stores with that part, what country they ship from, how many they have of that piece and how much per unit. Then you can see what other parts they have. Most of them have minimum buy totals (between 5 and 12 dollars usually) but it's easy enough to add some extra pieces I know I'll use to hit those limits. Since I'm doing it all in white (and clear, which I forgot to mention) it's simple enough to browse through all of the pieces they have in that color and supplement my stock. As I run low, I search for the parts I need the most, then check out the rest of the stores with those pieces I initially searched for. The prices are really good and everyone I've ordered from so far is usually really quick to order. Hands down, it's the best way to put your own designs together!

Glad you caved in and shared your progress with us!  The Lego program still sounds very awesome and I'll have to check it out.  Sounds great for experimenting with working on a 3d model for certain designs honestly, and I know I could get a lot of use out of it.  Never heard of Bricklink though, but it's also been ages since I've really messed with Legos or looked into buying parts and nice pieces.  Really think even though with the Lego online program, I'd love incredibly a set of just white blocks for working with things hands on which seems much more intuitive often and can have a better feel for it in mass/space.

Thanks for recommending the site btw, will check it out soon for sure.  Going to go take a look at your Legodelphi wips now!.  ;D

If you want a good collection of white pieces, Lego actually put out a set called "Architecture Studio" which has an assortment of white bricks, plates, slopes, tiles, etc. I actually started with that to see how much I could make with the set then decided to start getting more pieces. It's $150 for the set and you get 1,210 pieces (a few dozen of which are plates, so it's not a bad deal), plus sorting trays and a cool booklet with architecture facts and inspirational photos. That's a great place to start, especially if you want a hands-on approach!

Dang, quite the pricy set but is very tempting. It's been forever since I've done any Lego Kits as well but really want to get into 3D'izing some oldschool sprites for fun. So pretty much just need a bunch of square blocks for pixels.

Yeah, you'd have much better luck on Bricklink. Only thing that's nice about the Arch Studio is all the pieces are clean and new. Most pieces from Bricklink are also new or in good used condition, but pieces straight out of the box just fit so well!
