You seem to want very badly to write a worthwhile story. I bid you, weave a tale without bounds. Disregard allegations of cliches and unoriginality. Focus on the quality of the work.
Also, poetry doesn't need to be dark.
A gentle breeze has stirred the sand,
a cawing at my feet!
I turn my focus to the ground,
and beady eyes I meet.
An ugly little rat with wings,
with nowhere else to go,
has taken liberties abound,
and perched upon my toe.

Oh believe me, I agree that poetry doesn't need to be dark. I just happen to feel that any poetry that I [i]myself[/i] write that isn't dark, tends to be extremely corny. That also seems to extend to any poetry with a rhyming scheme, for some reason.
I think I'll make it a point, however, that the next bit of poetry I deem good enough to post here will be a bit on the lighter side. Thank you, sir, for the comment.
