I like where you are going with your work; I'm a huge fan of the idea of "index" myself. 2 questions: (1) Why coffee and not tea, beer, or redbull; is this in regards to yourself or our culture? (2) are these planned or accidental? Maybe they are min performance pieces or what if you start collecting people's 'rings' right in front of them.
Great stuff!

I'm not sure if "index" is the right word for myself. I have other projects that definitely break away from the coffee culture mode but this project definitely has a nitch of it's own with medium and subject matter.
Answers to your questions!
(1). Coffee has been a major force in world financial markets since the first stock markets in Amsterdam, 1659. It has shaped many cultures both for the good and bad and continues to define the American culture in a way the industrial revolution was defined in some impressionist paintings. I choose this subject matter and medium due to an interest in ours and other cultures and to explore my place in the consumer market a la Fight Club without the demolition of buildings and gun shot to the head.
I had not considered beer or redbull but Tea has been used and I've been approached to do a series for Washington State wineries using specific varietals.
(2) The first one was accidental and very much a joke about modern art. The second was a continuation of the joke but the third one. . . the third one was very very deliberate! I like your idea of a mini performance piece of collecting people's 'rings' right in front of them! Thanks for the idea!

wow. coffee paintings.. I had never thought of that.. I can see that it works very well as watercolour.
I have a couple questions though.
Does licking your paintings wake you up? or would a sniff suffice.
and
How much sugar and cream do you put in your coffee?

Thanks for stopping by! I'm glad you like the coffee paintings!
Answers to your questions . . .
"Does licking your paintings wake you up?" Um . . . two fold(gers) . . . yes . . . before they are sealed a lick would be a double espresso and the taste would knock you on your ass! A sniff is good too for a grin.
"How much sugar and cream do you put in your coffee?" Two lumps and a dash of half-n-half for my coffee drink and straight up for my coffee paints!
Once sealed the paintings loose the coffee smell though . . . it's too bad. My studio smell great and the gallery would smell wonderful too but if they are not sealed the coffee could re-constitute with humidity or possible mold.
