Well hello there!Welcome to my profile, I would say ^^
I'm Suzanne and on here my name will be Floraski.
I live in the Netherlands, I am 20 years old on the moment and I just really love drawing ^^ Even though I hate having so little inspiration most of the time xD
Luckily I have "Avater: The Legend of Korra" now to give me lots of pictures to draw ^^ Please take a look at them, they are right here to be seen by the world!
Next to LoK I'm also very much in love with "The Legend of Zelda" and a bunch of animes including "Fruits Basket".
I'm trying to draw more realistic since not so very long, so any help with that would be appreciated!
I also Knit and crochet whenever I feel like it, so sometimes I will post some of those ^^ Please take al look if you want to! <3 At the moment I'm busy with a lifetime project xD Namely: making a Legend of Zelda blanket or something. I made the design myself so I can only hope that will come out right >.<

Have you ever heard of someone being referred to as a "surface artist?" I used to have a bad case, and I'm not sure if you've diagnosed yourself with it or not!

From my understanding, a surface artist is simply someone who draws from a "surface style" of what they see, rather than drawing from an understanding of anatomy, shapes, hues, shading, etc. Essentially, that's what I did. I just picked some pictures of my favorite characters and drew them in an almost tracing manner without any real understanding of what I was drawing. I sort of applied what I saw in those drawings and made my own style out of it, and while I tended to grow exponentially in short periods of time every year, I was sort of stuck in a flat, cartoony style that never evolved, and which I never understood.
Recently, I've examined this (especially thanks to this comic strip here: [link] ) and I've taken the steps that seemed unnecessary at the time to really try and understand what I'm doing. It TOTALLY helps! Simple things like not drawing in pen and "sketching" rather than drawing hard lines and just going with what comes out really, really helps.
Just passing on good information to another aspiring artist. Don't be contained by surface art! Don't be afraid to grow out of what you're used to and develop a style, even if it means changing how you draw.
Seriously, though, that link and that comic strip really changed my whole artist life and recharged my zeal to be a better artist. Check it!

It also has a workbook with it and people say that if you read it with patience and do those assignments over and over again, that you will realy learn to draw in another way: With the right side of the brain.
Stupid left side that contradicts everything the right side wants to do!
Haha, I don't own the books yet though, but when I do I will get back to you about them ^^ (If I do not forget >.<)
