I am dying to know, how can you create such lively paintings and drawings in gimp?

Which drawing specifically and i can tell u, um okay lets take my peeking tom one, if i was to do that again with out my tablet i would just sketch it out scan it, open it in gimp do an alpha to color removing all white leaving only my line art and start making my layers, ok for skin for me its 4 to 5 layers layer one is the skin color 2 definition,3 shading, 4 lighting 5 the complimentary color, same goes for hair just with 3 layers one hair color 2 highlight 3 complimentary, i got a type for hair to use a small brush with fade to create hair strains, but um thats about it.

How can you draw each body shape and their hair so perfectly? How can you make them look so real? I tried to draw and make my drawings look realistic but, it just doesn't work.
