Your first time trying this medium out?

BahamutDeusModus In reply to Ikuyari [2012-07-17 18:15:01 +0000 UTC]
It is my first time I'm greatly enjoying it, and it's very convenient to use. When I'm finished with a picture I can put it online without scanning it first; I don't own a scanner, so I have to go through others to scan my pencil drawings. Also, it's handy for painting on the PC, since (might as well face it) digitally colored pictures almost always get recognition before traditionally colored pictures.
Still, I love traditional art, and I'll always keep that a part of my drawings and sketches.

Ikuyari In reply to BahamutDeusModus [2012-07-22 13:27:08 +0000 UTC]
Oh, that's hard if you don't own a scanner :/ And photos aren't really good either ...
But I never understand why digital art is so much preferred Of course it's amazing what others can do with Photoshop/PaintTool Sai or whatever ... but traditional media has so magic : < It's a shame that it's going under a bit

BahamutDeusModus In reply to Ikuyari [2012-07-23 01:25:31 +0000 UTC]
Mmm-hmm, smetimes I think traditional stuff is overlooked in favor of the smooth digital art. Although I happen to be quite a fan of digital myself, as long as it's true digital art (such as they still go through the motions of 'painting' or 'drawing', I dislike it when they piece things together to make one picture since anyone can do that,). There are some wonderful digital artists on DA, like Heisei and Phoenixlu But I also love traditional art, and being familiar with that style of art myself I can appreciate the effort and looks of others' traditional arts and drawings/paintings.
Hehe, I can go on for quite some time I think Hope you don't mind!

No worries, it's okay, just go on
I think ... well, I mean I also make use of Photoshop when I'm drawing and I admire all those talents f.e. the ones you mentioned (I also have many digital arts in my favourites). And as long as the artist goes through the pain of drawing (g) it's all okay but still traditional is somehow "special" And you don't have the "go backbackbackback"-button and can't save in-between. On the other hand digital art is far more time-consuming I assume...
I cherish those who can handle digital media and also traditional stuff

BahamutDeusModus In reply to Ikuyari [2012-07-25 04:13:39 +0000 UTC]
Why, all right then
True, doing digital you can erase and redraw as much as you want, but on paper you can only do that so many times before it leaves a permanent imprint. So traditional may be more challenging in that way. Although, I think digital really gives an upper-edge when it comes to painting/coloring black and white pictures. It's so smooth and fluid, that normal painting (or using colored pencils) don't have as much of a chance at being noticed.
So, both mediums have pros and cons, and both should be considered, as long as one isn't shoved aside.

Traditional work may also be a bit more charming because of the mistakes you can't erase ... Some digital art is too perfect Which doesn't mean that I don't like those.
But drawing digital is so difficult with all those functions >_>

BahamutDeusModus In reply to Ikuyari [2012-07-31 03:25:27 +0000 UTC]
I try my best to cover my mistakes (if I have any) skillfully when I'm doing traditional art
There's a lot to learn with digital art... the thing I need to learn from the most is coloring my pictures digitally, since there's so many tools and brushes! Still, I will get better at it and learn!

Ikuyari In reply to BahamutDeusModus [2012-07-31 16:32:46 +0000 UTC]
Yah, that's the difficult part ... but don't get overwhelmed with all the brushes and tools! Practically you won't need more than 1-3 brushes for a pictures - unless you're one of those monster-profis *grin*
But there are many great tutorials! And some studies are always a very good way to train

BahamutDeusModus In reply to Ikuyari [2012-08-02 17:03:31 +0000 UTC]
It looked like a lot of tools at first glance, but when I try them all out and start to become familiar with what they do, I find ones I particularily like an usualy stick with those. Turns out its not as difficult, eh?
I usually never look at tutorials...I just go into it, press this button and that brush, stick it with that color...and experiment. And I end up getting familiar with them that way.

Exactly So never let yourself confuse by the first try
After some time you may try out other stuff, but not immediatly ;D
You eventually find out yourself what looks good and what not but it still remains so time-consuming, it's horrible q.q

BahamutDeusModus In reply to Ikuyari [2012-08-08 16:32:53 +0000 UTC]
I gotcha
Everyone finds something that they like to stick with usually; you don't see someone using all kinds of mediums too often to do their art.
Digital painting is nice, though, I have to admit; I seem to do that a bit better than traditional (maybe that is just because it looks better on a PC that way)

Ikuyari In reply to BahamutDeusModus [2012-08-14 11:39:09 +0000 UTC]
What a late answer from me now ... Sorry ><"
That's right
After some time you may try out different stuff but in the end there's always something that's similar to those things you usually use ^^ Otherwise you'd have to force yourself.
Well you have more possabilities with digital art and you MAY have easier access to the function´s while traditional art is limited.

BahamutDeusModus In reply to Ikuyari [2012-08-15 17:05:12 +0000 UTC]
Lol, that's okay! I just enjoy the fact that I've found another friend to talk to.
I'm already getting more used to painting digitally It's fun, a lot of work, but I'm just getting used to (and getting better) at using colors since I've always been more of a black and white kind of artist, since I usually just draw.
I think when it comes down to digital and traditional art, people need to have an 'open mind' when loking at them both. of course people always have their preference, but as long as they understand the time and effort that goes into both mediums, then they can treat both mediums fairly. But then again, that depends on the person.

And now I'm online again and DA is soooo slow and doesn't show any pictures >__<"
How have ya been meanwhile? I've seen that you uploaded new pictures! Unfortunately I can't see them *kicking deviantart* ><" Hopefully it'll work soon, maybe my internet is lacking something nowadays....
From what I've realized öhm ... today? XD ... many digital artworks look very precisely, are lacking the life and looseness pictures drawn by hand have. It's really difficult not to overdraw a picture on the computer Oo

BahamutDeusModus In reply to Ikuyari [2012-10-18 16:47:48 +0000 UTC]
That's okay, and yes, of course I still remember you
Your internet sounds like dial-up, which is what I dealt with until earlier this year
I've been great! How have you been? I haven't been uploading as much stuff lately because it takes me sooo long to do artworki ight now, and I've been busy busy busy... But I'm still drawing/painting, it's just taking a bit longer.
It's probably difficult to not overdraw a digital picture because you can erase things as many times as you want to make it that 'perfect' quality. That's what I like about traditional, it's a challenge; you definitely can't erase something as many times as you want!

Yay, she remembers me *w* xD
Dial-up? Would you mind explaining that "internet-phenomena" (hehe) to me? Sometimes DA works without problems and then ... no pictures >__> It hates me XD
With what are you busy if you don't mind telling me? Work?
I've also been great My "course" started two weeks ago ... it's called "Foundation Course" and some sort of "preperation" for me to study something "creative" ... but I'm not quite sure what I'm going to do in the future. But it's a lot of fun there
But it's good that you are taking your time for drawings
Yay ... and that "perfect" makes drawings boring I know that I'm not better xD But I'm stunned at those digital pictures where you can really see the strokes and where it's "comprehensible" what the artist did
It's just charming to see those "not perfect" pictures :]
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
BahamutDeusModus In reply to Ikuyari [2012-10-21 22:00:40 +0000 UTC]
Lol
Dial-up is beyond internet phenomena, it's more like 'internet failure' Ehh, so then it's just DA and not your internet?
I guess you could call it work. Usually I'm busy with either drawing (right now I'm doing commission work for someone) or writing my novel. And then there are the other thngs in life that can make you busy, like doing yardwork, things around the house, going out sometimes with friends and family... I don't technically have a job, so I can't say Im busy with that.
Are you in school or a college? Since you said something about a 'course' I thought you might be. I'd say do in the future something that you enjoy, because if you're making money but you're miserable all the time, then it's not worth it. In my opinion, anyway.
I draw when I'm inspired too or when I'm doing something for a friend. Lately I've finaly been able to do some drawing for money too!
'Not perfect' has charm, for sure. But I have to admit I enjoy both types, the digital and the traditional. I'm kind of picky when it comes to liking artwork, to me it has to be good.

Ikuyari In reply to BahamutDeusModus [2012-10-23 16:50:01 +0000 UTC]
Haha, internet failure, this one's good! XD
Yap for me it's only DA ... maybe that's just normal because I don't have Premium Membership *sigh* You don't have any problems?
Sounds pretty much like a housewife's work ... which really sucks because everyone expects that from you but no one appreciates it ... Good that I still live at my parents place and don't have to do that much *lol*
How is it like to do commissions?
Well it's hard to define ... "Government" here can't decide what it is exactly what I am doing right now XD I got my school leaving examination 2010 and I visited a secondary school specialized in commerce ... you know accountancy, business-stuff ... It really sucked XD The job I had afterwards was quite okay but boring after some time and two "colleages" started bullying like they always did with newcomers. So I saw that as a sign "Do something creative" what I always wanted to do ... but I'm still not sure what I CAN do to earn enough money so I can live.
And for an application at universities I need a folder with projects/drawings ... depending on what you want to do.
But I have no clue how to get and make a folder ^^ As far as I know pupil do this in secondary schools specialized on art.
And there's a private university which offers a so-called "Foundation Course" where you 1) learn the basics/foundation^^ for 3D (mostly architecture) and 2D (mostly for graphic designers) and 2) where you create a folder. It's also for people who know they want to do something "creative" but don't know what exactly so they can see what possibilities there are Unfortunately the country where I live in offers hardly opportunities for the gaming or animation sector ._. Or actually as good as none.
So ... yeah, it lasts two semesters.
I hope you get what I mean My english is really rusty and I explain things so complicated XD
And you're absolutely right! If you do something in work you like you'll "bloom" and don't have to regret anything later But it's also difficult to know "how is it possible to get there and make money".
Did a friend asked you to draw something and paid you? Or how did you have the chance to do drawing for money?
Hmm, yeah, the drawing has to affect your heart

Sorry for a late reply!!
No, DA usually works good for me, if I have any problems it's my internet connection (AKA my PC causing problems). The only problem I have right now is the new submit page, I couldn't submit a new picture because for some reason; that page wasn't working. Although I did try again yesterday and it finally went through, which is nice. I hope if they’re going to keep it, they make it work even better than the old one at the very least.
Haha, yes sometimes doing housework is expected but not really thought of. Thankfully where I live it is; I still live with my parents too, and actually my grandparents and my sister. Six people in one house!! Good thing it’s not small.
I’ve also been busy because I’m trying to make a diorama for the DA contest running right now, and with the commission work and writing my story, it seems like I don’t have a lot of time to do other things. But I’m definitely not complaining, since I want to make a living off of my art and my novel/writing, when I finish it and publish it. Plus, I am having fun, I just want to play my games…!
Hmm, your situation sounds complex! I understand what you mean, your English is fine What country do you live in? I think it’s on your profile but I don’t remember it…
As far as making a folder, do you also mean making a portfolio of your work? At least, that’s what I think it is. I have one myself, though it’s only half-full; it showcases my traditional artwork so if I want to show people my art, I usually just hand them that to look at. It’s mainly what you use if you want to show a business, per say, what you can do. For me I just bought one at the store, it’s like a booklet of sorts with the clear slips that you put your art in, and each page shows one picture. It does well enough for me, but if you’re working with animations and 3D things, I’m not sure how to make a portfolio for those. I’d have to look it up!
I myself haven’t ever had a ‘normal/real’ job yet, though I have helped out at a chiropractor’s office where my Mom works to do their filing. It’s kinda fun And I get paid for it, so whenever I get the chance to do that, I jump for it As for doing something you like and making money off of it, I guess that just depends on what you like doing! There’s always a chance to make a living off of the things you like to do. If you don’t mind, I’ll recommend a good book to read (it’s in English) that I find can put you in a good state of thinking. It’s called ‘The Secret’ written by a woman named Rhonda Byrne. I suppose it depends on whether or not you believe what it talks about, but I find it works for me I tend to be an optimist, if you haven’t noticed.
As far as doing commissions go, I’ve only had two so far, so it may not be the best thing to go by But I’m lucky in that the first commission I received a few months ago doesn’t have to be ready until Christmas. It’s a coworker of my sister’s, she wanted me to draw a poster for her son for Christmas, so it’s a super-long deadline (which is good, because that poster is taking me a long time O.o). The other commission is actually my sister’s fiancé’s best friend, he wants me to draw him a logo that he can use. So that one doesn’t actually have a deadline, but it’s better to get your work done sooner than later. I’m having fun with them, though, and I’m getting paid for it so it’s wonderful! I’m happy I’ve finally started something with my hobbies…! As for how they found out I can draw and wanted to commission me, the woman wanting the poster knows me somewhat and always saw the artwork I entered for the local library contests, whereas the other guy chanced across my artwork because my sister likes to show it off sometimes if I put it up on facebook. I’m grateful to her for that!!
Uwaaa, such a long reply!! Maybe a note would be better?
