Well now, I read the first four chapters (0-4) while sipping my afternoon coffee. It can be seen that Takahashi's works have influenced yours the great deal, but that doesn't mean it would be totally unoriginal or a rip off. It's just that your source of inspirations is shown in it. As I'm myself very interested in japanese history and culture alike, a story influenced by it pleases me. And we all are influenced by something and all ideas are (in some sense) recycled, made-overs etc. All artist and writers are influenced by other people. Our master were influenced by theirs and so on. You just must find your own style and perspective you invent the wheel over and over again. That only, is your very own, it was never done by a person just like you.
Now, you can write, and you have talent of telling the story with a good flow in it. Your style gives me the idea that you imagined the story as a manga, or animation. Or at least I do, but that's just my thing . Β I like epic stuff too made with a good taste (samurai's, demons, the mind settings of bushido, Β japanese traditions mixed etc) Β You strong point is definitely your story telling skills. I take it that dragons have quite a big role in your story? You can make them interesting when you avoid cliches, and it seems you've done that. Maybe that's Β 'cause your dragons are more east- styled and influenced and are taking their inspiration from shintoism, spirit world etc. Of course, I can't really say anything more deep, 'cause i only read the first four chapters so far. Β
Only thing I would like to refine a little, is the character designs. Of course, its just my tastes I'm talking about. Now I get the idea that characters all very showy ones, so maybe some features could be toned down a little so that the character feels more like, "real". The main character doesn't have to have have many special outer features, otherwise it's a risk that your character ends up looking too full of everything and just out of place. Less is more. Even so If the character has somewhat superhuman powers etc. One or two special features (like unusual hair color, tails, big nails, ears, teeth, scars etc) should be fine, but If your characters has many big, showy features it steals the attention away from the character itself. Β I'm trying to say that one shouldn't overdo fancy things when designing characters. If we think about for example, Inuyasha as a character, the only thing showing his demon blood is his ears. If he would have a tail and marks in his cheeks as well, it would a bit too much.Β
But all in all, you should continue writing definitely! Hope this helps! Β

Thank you very much for the feedback. I agree with you that when I write this I see it more playing out in my head as an animation or manga than a fully written work so that ddoes influence my writing style, for better or worse.
As for the character designs I'm trying to create visibly distinguishing characters that even without the illustrations you're able to paint a vivid picture in your mind. As for the scars I don't think they're too distracting because the one on his arm is covered most of the time and the one over his left eye is his constant reminder of his failure and serves a more emotional/symblolic purpose than just to give him a manly scar.
Once again I appreciate the feedback and look forward to seeing what you think of the rest of the stoey so far.
