Working under the pseudonym of Morffin he designs, sculpts and paints various creatures and characters for their use in film, games and other media.
Alex enjoys reflecting on the extremities of human emotion, anxiety and social morality in an exceedingly cruel world. Using dark irony, subtle tonal patterns and a combination of muted hues and stark colour contrasts to create a childlike world, where monsters and people are one in the same and not everything is as it first seems.
Alexander was raised in suburban Melbourne where he drew, read about and dressed up as his favourite fictional characters and monsters. He began sculpting at the age of 6 when he found an instructional book teaching him to sculpt people and animals. Later he used these skills to make his own toys and gifts for friends and family.
He has a great love of children's fiction and poetry, and would like to one day follow the example of his heroes Maurice Sendak, Daniel Handler and Edward Gorey by writing and illustrating his own children's fiction. On top of this, he also enjoys the art of stop motion animation and plans on co-directing a short film with a close friend in the near future.
Currently, Alex is studying a Bachelor of Digital Art & Game Design in his third and final year at RMIT University. In the past, Alex has designed characters for the Royal Melbourne Children's Hospital, auctioned his work off for charity and campaigned for the awareness of youth depression and anxiety.
Alex's work is heavily influenced by the melancholic works of Edward Gorey and Maurice Sendak, the vibrant and playful designs of Cory Loftis and the films of Adam Elliot and Henry Selick.
