Hey man, I'm not entirely sure which Joker picture you mean from back then, but I'm going to guess it probably wasn't. I haven't drawn too many Jokers that I can think of, but you never know, it might have been an old drawing I've forgotten about haha

UKRIEGER-OFFICIAL [2018-02-13 22:01:59 +0000 UTC]
Heh, I love your Art...
It may not be the sorta style I'd ever go for, since I'm more cartoony most of the time, I have had a go at ALL sorts of art style, patterns and techniques over time, although I don't really upload much of my sketches anymore. Since I'd think people are not so interested.Β
But the point is I am inspired by your stuff honestly. I love the exaggerated style, and I definitelyΒ wish so much that my art had more of a 'style' something more unique. Because I only feel that my style hasn't got much originality anymore since I believe I try too hard. :V
Yeah, I'm not a little kid looking up to my 'hero' but I'm just a guy looking for advice without the criticism that comes barging in with it. I don't feel I need to be criticizedΒ of what I already have since I often point out my own mistakes straight away but I can never go back and edit it, unfortunately.
From all of this, I know I need a different drawing program but options are limited on my Samsung tablet. :/Β
I'm not afraid of being told what I'm doing wrong, whether I even am doing somethingΒ 'wrong.' But It's silly that still, people say my art is 'perfect' as it is, but what if I actually feel like I WANT to change it, not that I NEED to?Β
I don't know. But there's my little ramble over with, heh.Β

Hey man, thanks for the message. I really appreciate you getting in touch and I'm glad that I'm inspiring your artwork in a way.
So, I guess what you're asking is how do you find your 'style'? This is the age old question - and there's no single answer, everyone's style changes over time. It's a pretty rare thing to see an artist only ever creating work that looks the same. Everyone goes through stages where they draw or produce work in a particular look, and then new influences creep their way in and eventually you'll pick up little things you like and your own style will develop into something new and different. No one is truly unique in this way - everyones style is usually just a combination of the hundreds of different influences melded together with your own personality to create a look that becomes you and what you're known for.
If you want to work on developing your style though, I guess the trick is to experiment. Don't be afraid to do stuff outside your comfort zone and make lots of mistakes. When you find an aspect of what you like in these experiments, try holding onto that little part of it and introducing it into your other experiments. For me, drawing quickly or free drawing helps. Just grab a pen and go nuts. See what happens. You'll find you start to gravitate toward what you're comfortable with but if you move quickly and dont overthink what you're trying to draw little things can start to emerge that you find you like. Stop and ask yourself why you like them. Is it the the way you changed the line-weight? Is it the way it curves or has sharp angles? Maybe the eyes are too far apart - but it kind of looks cool to you?Β Grab those and build on them in your next sketch and see what happens. Personally, doing this helped me push the exaggeration and expression in my sketches. By not being too attached to what I'm drawing, I can step back and be like "ok, he looks anxious or nervous .. what makes him look that way - what works and what doesn't." Then go in and draw over it and push it passed the point of it working and find the limit where it goes too far and looks dumb. Recognise the boundaries of how far you can take things before you break it. Keep loose, don't spend too much time on each sketch, make mistakes and re draw.
You mention you spot your mistakes but cant edit them. Fixing your mistakes is the only way to not make them in the future. Recognising them is one thing but actually going in and seeing what steps you need to take to make it work is what will develop your skills further. And don't worry about what software or programs you use. (I've seen some amazing art drawn on samsung tablets though) Just grab a pencil and paper and dont be afraid to erase half the picture if you need to. I sometimes spend an hour on a sketch only to realise the proportions are so jacked I just can't fix them so I'll delete half the image and re draw it until it works.
Also, create your art for you. If you want to work on your style and skills, stop drawing what you think other people want you to do and do what you want. Catering to what you think other people want means you'll keep drawing in a style you think others like and as a result it will start to look like everything else. If you want to try different stuff, do it. Your art is your art - the only time you should feel the NEED to draw a particular way is if you're being paid for it, or if you're trying to create a portfolio to get work in a field that will only pay for that style of art. You don't have to show anyone your experiments until you're happy with them - no one needs to have input on them but you. But, that being said, if you are wanting to improve you need to be able to take the criticism. Friends and family will always be nice and say it's perfect. It's good reinforcement but it's a pain to get real feedback because they won't want to hurt your feelings. Find people you trust to look at your work and give proper feedback and criticism. Don't be offended by this, but take it on board and use it as a tool to help what you're doing. Sure they might point out things you already saw (go and fix them) but they might also point out things you missed that can make the overall artwork better.
Sorry for the rant haha. This is by no means THE ONLY WAY to go about this, just a few short pointers that helped me. Everything develops and evolves over time and everyone will feel bogged down and 'stuck' with what they're doing at some point.Β Just keep on drawing and experimenting and learning from your mistakes and you'll push through it.
Hopefully that's helped in some way. Best of luck!

Yes! This has helped alot and I'll definitely follow your word here.
I may not have time to reply to everything here but I know, I need to quit this habit or 'attitude' I got into of drawing mostly for other people's sake and feeling like I can't do my best ideas because it's not worth it or something. :/
Geez, that's often what takes my motivation away the most.
But I'll make the effort to get out of this and see what I can come out with while doing it my way.
I really needed some motivation and you absolutely helped alot with that.
Thank you.
