Thanks for the watch and right back at you. Your work has that great looseness of style that I envy i other artists more every day. I think it's "real art' if that means anything. I guess I mean in contrast the sort of pop culture illustration I do. Not that I mind doing illustration. I guess it's whatever moves us, right? I love the gritty texture of your work as well as the underlying solid draftsmanship.

Those are generous as well as erudite comments, Huwman. My background is in fine art, endless hours spent in the "life rooms" of universities drawing the nude model. I used a photo reference for the first time when I was fifty.
Anatomy, pose and a sense of gravity were always important to every figure I drew.
Then, I had a recurrence! The comix fever that inhabited me throughout my adolescent and college years came back on strong.
Since then I have done many illustrations and comic strips, pages, short stories and GNs.
Your work has that vitality and "non-academic" look I treasure. Will Elder always had it ( one of my comix and illustration gods), and the Argentinian Alberto Breccia, from whom I have learned more than anyone else.
MORT CINDER by Breccia is an unqualified masterpiece.
Here's a nice Google page of Breccia's work:

Sergio Toppi, the Italian artist and illustrator is another-- though his work is tight and controlled, it sings. His sense of design is second to none among illustrators and comix artists:

Finally, I adore the work of the American illustrator ROBERT FAWCETT. Anyone who wishes to draw with accuracy and proficiency --yet retain the loose and free look-- needs to study his brushwork-- and his black-and-whites as well as his color. Here are some examples on the site of my good buddy Mike Vosburg-- longtime DC and Marvel artist:
( also on this Google page is my portrait of Fawcett which I made for a European illustration mag a few years back}:

Good luck with your work ( which I already like a lot) and I hope you achieve all your goals as an artist.
Nice to meet you and I hope we can continue to share work.
Sincerely,
Norman

Hi Norman,
Thanks for taking the time to write this; some great stuff here. I am familiar with Fawcett and Vosberg and, believe me, I'll take any comparison to Will Elder any day! I'll check into the foreign fellows too, as they look great at first blush. Technically, since I'm a Canuck, I guess ALL these guys are foreigners, but I mean the Argentinian and the Italian gent.
Having been published in MAD and CRACKED, I have achieved some of my major artistic goals but I do have many more. Here's to both of us seeing the rest of our dreams reach fruition in the coming years.
Thanks again.
Huw

My dear DeviantArt friends.
I HAVE RETURNED!!
After four years on FLICKR, I have returned to the slightly more sedate ( and perhaps a bit younger, demographically) and slightly wacky DEVIANT ART sphere.
I am looking forward to your comments. "favoriting" your work and posting many of my images.
I also have portions of a graphic novel to share, and many illustrations, including AN H.P. LOVECRAFT sketchbook: PNAKOTIC REFECTIONS.
HELLO DIEGO, my amigo siempre!
Norman

I sure would, Scribbler-- please ask again if you're still interested. You last request was two years ago. I have been very neglectful with my replies!

Dear Scribbler:
I wanted to post my latest image, "Club Dancer" in your PAINTED LADIES GROUP. But the widget, when I use it, keeps telling me "This Group Does Not Exist."
Can you assist/ teach me how to post images to your group? I have many potential postings.
Thanks again,
Norman
