Hey I was on your atomic rockets website recently and its truly amazing! Β I was wondering, what do you think of this spacecraft design? nexusoflife.deviantart.com/art… I created it over the course of six months. I wanted to create a hard sci-fi spacecraft that could be built in the near future. Any feedback that you have on my spacecraft would be greatly appreciated!Β

Actually found out you had a deviantart account from looking at the comments on Reconnaissance Mission Spacecraft . Your website is a great collection of hard-scifi knowledge, and I'm sure you've heard it many times before, but it's a great resource.

I have recommended it many times in the past to people who were interested in crafting a realistic science fiction setting.

I see you're also pretty hand with pixels, as well as words. I'll be watching you, keep up the inspirational works.

Hello.

I love your site. Have you aver considered making an ebook version of it and selling it? It could increase amount of people who'd read the whole thing as computer screens are pretty bad for longer reading.

NyrathWiz In reply to ForgottenDemigod [2015-10-09 15:44:37 +0000 UTC]

The trouble is that 90% of my site is quotes from other authors. All of which would have to give their permission for their material to be included in an eBook.
Or I could re-write all of their quotes, just using the concepts. Which would take a thousand years.

NyrathWiz In reply to lmbednark [2014-12-02 18:26:41 +0000 UTC]

Have not seen the movie yet because of Reasons, but the Endurance is reasonable. The main complaint I've heard is that the pressurized module should have been rounded. Rectangular structures that are pressurized tend to spring leaks at the edges.
Other than that it is a pretty good design.

Nyrath, thanks for adding my Hermes concept to your favorites! I must confess the Atomic Rockets website helped tremendously to determine design features like artificial gravity, power consumption or waste heat disposal. It was challenging but fun to meet these requirements with the descriptions in the book.

Hi! I just wanted to say that I greatly appreciate all the effort and information you’ve put into the Atomic Rockets website: it’s been essential to working out the details and operation of spacecraft in my setting. I’ve posted one example here , if you wish to see it (and I’m thinking of making a more exact schematic and 3D model).

I would be interested in seeing a 3D model.

Im having an idea about redefining science fiction by introducing a new genre: the "industrial fantasy" as a new home for scientifically inaccurate scifi. And the old magic dragon fantasy should be called "classical fantasy", now the two fantasy genre can coexist in a correct category. The important thing here is to properly use word "science". The main stream identification of science fiction is only based on superficial impression of visual and verbal elements, not based on what science is or how it worked. The problem with the old nomenclature is that there is no "soft" in science, because science have to be "hard", compromise or modification invalidate the status of science, I think there is no need to explain this point between us. An adequate example is History, like science, history in its principle is another pure fact based system of knowledge, only differ by subject. Historical fiction draw a clear line with fantasy, there is no way the Lord of Ring could be called a "soft" History. Something cannot be History just by look like History, magic dragon looks like history but we all agree it is not. Science deserves the same respect, there is no "look like" in science, Star Trek looks like science, but unfortunately not everyone agree it is not science. What is your opinion on this idea?
