I'm happy to meet someone with it as well. Yeah, it is pretty rare, my mom just found out about the different online groups and convention type meetings people with it have around...August...I think? As far as I'm aware, you're the first person I've "met" with it as well. ^^

My best friend also has VATERs. It's nice to know you're not alone, yah know? I've heard of those meetings too. I wish I could go! But it's nice to meet you! <3 I'm always happy to meet people that I can related to. Having VATERs is generally something that most people can't relate to, LOL. So it's like a breath of fresh air.

I'm mostly just glad to know someone who knows what it is (I've been going through the process of getting a new main dr. and none of them have any idea what Vaters/Vacterl is...actually it wasn't even in their part of the system) it's kind of annoying, having to spend like an hour of time just explaining what all I have.

Exactly! I've only met a handful of doctors who have even heard of Vaters/VACTERL. You spend more time explaining it to them than the actual doctors visit itself. I've actually had doctors bring their medical students in to see me, like when I'm in the hospital, for example. So I can tell them what Vaters is and such. It's actually kinda cool. But having to explain it over and over and over is just a pain in the ass.
What do you have, if I can ask? Like cardiac, for example. I've had 3 open heart surgeries and am looking at a transplant in the near future, once I get healed from this upcoming surgery next month. If you don't feel comfortable sharing anything, I understand. I'm just curious- there are so many things that can be associated with Vaters.

Well, my memory for my medical is super fuzzy, but I can explain what I can remember at least.
I was born with 3 holes in my heart that fixed themselves, somehow (and that's the only heart based issue I've had), I have Scoliosis and have had 3 separate surgeries for that (apparently Vacterl can cause this disorder), another thing I think has to do with Vacterl (again I think) is the fact that I was born with my esophagus going to my lungs instead of my stomach (had a surgery for that the day after I was born). Some other issues I have that are less severe are extra bones, a third non-functioning kidney (I just found out about this a couple months ago and I still don't know how to react), a part of my bone on my left wrist stuck out and had to get sawed off slightly due to how much was sticking out (I wore an upper arm cast for it for a while, still have the scars from the stitches too), and I had some kind of extra skin thing on my other hand (it sounds gross mostly because I can't explain it properly) that just got cut off with out an issue (it left a mark that I always thought was some odd birthmark with a texture to it).
I hope this wasn't too much info, or too gross. There were/are more issues, but they either developed later or I forgot about them.
