thank you for your concern! I am fine, I was a bit burnt out and it's a rough chapter for me (a lot of talking scenes, not much action) so it's been hard to motivate myself to work on the pages. I took the time off to work on some other things and I plan to start up again soon.

(Not sure where you reposted from though; if you mean my comics account on DA I don't think I've even logged on in over a year. But I don't check DA in general as often as I used to; my tumblr or the shoutbox on the machine site are better places to contact me if you want a quick reply.)

Yeah, I originally posted this on your comics account. And I'm terrible at using Tumblr so I don't really use it, and I only noticed the shoutbox the other day. It didn't appear to have any mention of your hiatus which I thought was odd, so I was wondering if it was from last year or something...

Yeah I know tumblr isn't for everyone (just as no website is universally liked/used), but it's where I'm at most frequently so it's worth mentioning. (and I have now posted a notice in the shoutbox in case anyone else checks there; thanks for the reminder! ideally I'd have posted the notification as a blog update, but I'm not sure if I can do that without it becoming stuck in the archive forever, which is not something I want.)

I'm certainly not immune to missed updates or taking breaks (and this is not my first unscheduled hiatus) but I have no intention of quitting FM as long as I still have hands and eyes. C: It's nice to hear my work is appreciated, and that some readers from the DA account followed to the main site.

I have tumblr, but I find that anything or interesting useful is buried underneath anime gifs and pictures of people's food... and the same pictures reblogged by each person.

Its good to hear that you'll be continuing. I read a lot of online comics, but that also means that I've seen a number of webcomics go under... Its always very sad when they do. you never know what will happen next.

And I think I actually found your webcomic through a giftart/fanart by Varethane, and I think I found him through either advertising on other webcomics or the TWC list... I found your dA on your website after you hadn't updated in a while.

For a while I stopped browsing tumblr for the same reason, but I now use an add-on called 'tumblr savior' to hide the stuff I don't care about (and you can even list a url and it will hide all posts by that user, if you don't care about their posts but don't want to unfollow them entirely). It has definitely made my tumblr dash a more positive experience.

It's true that many webcomics get dropped, but it can happen with print comics too-- any ongoing series in any type of media has the potential to go under without warning, sometimes against the will of the creators, and it's always unfortunate for fans of the work. (on a related note, I have been working on my pages and plan to update very soon.)

And it's always interesting to hear how others found my work-- we do draw a lot of gift art for each other so it's not surprising. (also, Varethane is female.)

And I don't actually read any print comics (well, I have print copies of some webcomics, but otherwise nope). I'm poor and I already read too many online, so I don't need to get into the marvel/dc scene as I'd likely be never seen again...

Hehe, caught me. I generally try to use gender-neutral pronouns like 'they', but I've been slipping up lately. I have difficulties remembering pretty much any basic details about people, and Varethane is a pretty gender-neutral name soooooo yep.
(Oh hey, her dA page doesn't say what gender she is.)

I don't follow marvel/dc either but I have friends who do, so I know it's a thing that happens. (But personally I've mostly had it happen with animated cartoons-- so many good cartoons have been cancelled because the studio decided they were not 'profitable' enough.)

'They' is definitely the safest bet; there's no way to tell someone's gender unless they explicitly tell you, after all. And Varethane doesn't usually post gender on any public profiles but it's come up casually in comments on DA and the Chirault site, and probably some other places too-- it's there but it's not obvious.
(The name Varethane came from a type of wood varnish (varathane) which I'd say is pretty neutral, but 'Thane' does have a male gender association; it's a Scottish midieval title, and apparently it's also a male given name.)

Its pretty disappointing when it does happen, but its inevitable. I also find it kinda sad when writers no longer have passion for what they're doing and just do it to keep the following happy... it doesn't work out.

I'm normally think myself pretty good with non-gendered pronouns, but i'll have to be more specific in the future. And I actually hadn't though about why it would sound masculine... it just sounds like it is to me.
