I canät remeber their name unfortunately, but they did create this group back before deviantart had the group-system and you had to create a regular account for every new group. Then when this new group system came to be, we could transfer the account into a group connected to our own main account instead. I think if I ever saw their username I would remember.

Well, I'm clearly biased since I've been a Pokeshipper for a good fifteen years or so and can never doubt the bond that Ash and Misty share but... something you said above "bothered" me.

When you call Misty "nasty", referring to her insulting Ash, it's like... you make it sound like Ash just stood there and took the abuse, which isn't right at all. Ash and Misty had a repertoire; that is to say that they both gave as good as they got, and neither one of them was ever hurt by something the other happened to say (except for in "Gotta Catch Ya Later", when Misty took Ash's words of good luck to mean that he didn't want/need her around, but we see later that he was just ignorant of what their time together meant to her and corrected this himself in canon). 

Instead, and I reference "Misty Meets Her Match", Misty's temper is used to build Ash up when he's down on himself and he uses this to win his gym match against Rudy. She is sometimes hard on him because it helps ease his rare moments of low self-esteem (such as after he loses at the Indigo League, or in his one-on-one match against Gary after the Orange Islands) and also because - let's face it - he needs his ego maintained sometimes, otherwise he gets a big head.

All of Ash's companions have offered him what he needed during that generation/region. Kanto!Ash is different from Kalos!Ash in a lot of ways. Kanto!Ash took loss hard, and took victory to mean that he was king of the world. There was very rarely a middle area in which he knew he was skilled but could still improve from there. That's why Misty was necessary to him and his reckless, egoistic mindset. These aspects of his personality have clearly been altered in later seasons, such as him practically being Dawn's teacher. Kanto!Ash would have lapped it up, being a mentor, receiving that kind of attention and praise, but later seasons don't paint that picture for us.

Personally, I'm not a huge Serena fan. I think the writers have pushed her aside to make way for Ash/Clemont/Bonnie far too often and that, when she gets her rare moment to shine, it just makes her seem self-centered. She unconsciously brushes off Clemont and Bonnie's friendship in leau of earning praise from Ash (unless Ash isn't around for her to receive that praise, which only makes it worse) and she's rarely had interactions with Pokemon - which is the main thing I blame on the writers. I mean, why are they writing her off as a one-sided love interest? Why not make her appealing in other ways? She's supposed to be pursuing a goal but constantly rebuffs opportunities to do so, despite showing interest in a half-dozen different things. (On a personal note, I also don't approve of her turning her Pokemon into a germaphobe/OCD.) I know that's not the intention of Serena's character design, but that's how I feel based on her behavior. At the same time, I recognize that she is simply enjoying the journey with no qualms about the destination, but it seems so passive to me when it comes to a show about children pursuing goals and dreams with such enthusiasm. Even the less active characters (like Misty, Brock, Max) have shown more ambition than her (despite their potential goals never receiving proper focus either) and that worries me, especially since she's a female character. I don't want her getting written off like this.

I also think Misty did that to keep Ash's ego in check (most of the time). If you look closely enough, you'll see that the yelling is sometimes her way of making him fight harder. Besides, Misty seems like she had a diffiult past. Also, she seems like a very sensitive person, so, that's her way of keeping her heart safe.
I don't know about Serena, but having a past with someone doesn't mean that's the right one - voice of experience here. Misty was there at the beginning of Ash's journey, of his first loss and his first big win (Orange League). So, which is more important?
I recognize I'm an unshakable pokeshipper, so, I wouldn't know how to support SerenaxAsh. Doesn't feel right to me, even if it becomes canon, that's all
