# About me

Hi all! I was originally born in Hong Kong, and moved to Australia when I was 6 years old. My first published work was the three-book series "The Dreaming" in 2004 with publisher TOKYOPOP, and since then, I've worked with author Dean Koontz on graphic novel prequels to his series "Odd Thomas". The series became a NYT Best-seller, and afterwards, I worked on "Small Shen", a prequel to best-selling author Kylie Chan's "White Tiger" Chinese fantasy series.

I'm also author-artist of many books and short stories on my website. I'm currently working on "Fabled Kingdom", which is a 3-book fairytale-inspired fantasy series. It's done in comics-prose, and the second installment should be out in February 2015!

I just started reading your Zelda comic. So far I am loving it. I was wondering, how did you learn to write these stories? I mean the pacing and such. Do you ever get your mind all jumbled up, trying to organize a story to be understandable.

Hey, sorry for the late reply. I haven't been checking my deviantart account lately.

To answer your question, I started writing these stories just like that - randomly. It seemed to "click" for me pretty quickly - not true for everyone I suppose. I don't really get my mind jumbled up, because I mostly approach it as comics first, and then reverse engineer parts of it to make prose.

I just had the extreme pleasure of reading your amazing comic/novel on Smackjeeves and I LOVED it! I'm not a huge Legend of Zelda buff, but I recently dated someone who was and I learned a whole lot about the history. The story you crafted was AMAZING in the humor, the descriptions, the creation of mysteries then the supreme satisfaction of having the mystery filled in by later reveals. It was SO GOOD AAASGHLDSDJFS!

Sorry, can't composure when expressing the feelings @_@

Aww, thanks for that! It's wonderful to hear people say that.
I did the Zelda fanfic a while ago, but I still hear from a lot of people.

Glad you enjoyed it, and glad you're reading my other work too!

(And yes, I always appreciate it when a writer shows that they know what they're doing. Creating mysteries and explaining them later on shows that the writer has a plan in mind when they put pen to paper. I always like to read those sorts of stories, so I always try to write them too.)

It's been a long time. How have you been? I'd like to say that I still plan to finish rereading The Sword and the Light for reasons that aren't completely clear it seems after saying that I would finish it my ability to concentrate took a nose dive. Anyways, is there another place to read your comics?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

QueenieChan In reply to Ether101 [2016-02-13 13:59:59 +0000 UTC]

Hehe, it's not for everyone. I imagine lots of people finished it, but lots of people didn't. Probably easier in print book form rather than online.

Hey, sure there are other places more suited to comics to read my work. There's Smackjeeves and Tapastic, where I'm uploading my latest story "Fabled Kingdom" up.

Hello Ms. Queenie Chan! I really love your book series, "the dreaming"! I loved it so much that I bought collection edition! The book series was an inspiration to me, both artistically and it is what sparked my initial interest in manga/manhwa! I heard there was a movie in the works for it a few years back on your website. Is it still in progress to this day? ^_^

QueenieChan In reply to AzureAkita [2016-01-01 23:40:51 +0000 UTC]

Hey, thanks for the nice comments. Glad you liked it, and that "The Dreaming" was an inspiration to you! It's always nice to hear people getting more interested in art/manga because of my work. Anyway, there IS a movie in development, but like many such productions, it's in a stage of development many know as "development hell". Theyr'e still working on the script last time I heard, but since I sold off all the rights to the movies, I'm not sure what's going on since it's not really my project. I do have hopes for it, though I have no idea what's happening with it.

Btw, I'm working on a new fairy-tale inspired fantasy story called "Fabled Kingdom" right now. I've just finished volume 3 (like "The Dreaming", it's a 3-book series). You can read it on this DeviantArt page of mine.

Wait, YOUR the Author of the Dreaming?!
Wow! I really enjoyed the book. It got me into the supernatural, specifically the Occult vs. Angelic genre.
It was an awesome experience; I loved your characters and the development you put them through!

Oh, I'm glad you liked "The Dreaming"!
It's been a while, but I'm glad people still talk about how it influenced them.
Thanks for dropping by and saying hello!
(I'm still into the supernatural too, btw)

Aww thanks!
The story's finished as well, which is probably a good thing too.
Happy reading!

(A lot of good fanfiction is unfinished, which I find pretty annoying, but it can't be helped.)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

SieghartXx In reply to QueenieChan [2015-02-06 16:51:00 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I was pretty hyped when I saw it was completed! As you said, most fanfiction doesn't get to the finish line, which has left me quite a lot of times starving for more, just to find out the author wasn't planning on completing said fanfictions TOT

I'll be sure to enjoy it thorougly!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

QueenieChan In reply to SieghartXx [2015-02-06 23:42:40 +0000 UTC]

Thanks!
(I actually don't read fanfiction any more because of that "unfinished" thing. Too bad - but then it's more annoying to read a good unfinished fanfic than a bad one).

Hmm, I don't think so.

The reason is that the text boxes look more like captions from the way they're arranged on the page.
Because they look and act captions, they also end up describing the pictures you've already drawn.
If you're describing the pictures you're drawing, then it's kinda redundant.
The point of comics-prose is to eliminate such redundancies.
For example, you wouldn't put in words that Noah has tripped on a rock AND draw a picture of Noah tripping on a rock.

Anyway, I will be able to put more examples up once I get my comics-prose group going. Hopefully that will give some direction on what comics-prose is meant to do.

Thanks for pointing my attention towards that.
This particular person does it in the way I originally intended - you can just scroll down the page like an Internet web page.
I was originally partly inspired by the Internet's mix of pictures and words (and scrolling format).
However, I ended up doing my stories in normal-book page format because I want to print my work and sell it.

OMG, I should. (I've been busy lately SIGH)
I have one more post to post on publishing before I get onto that.

I've got to organise the posts properly before I put it up online, but it should be up by the end of this year! *fingers crossed*
