They're great dogs - the fearsome reputation is largely undeserved; I've never met a Dobie that wasn't a lot of fun. ^^

Rats are another excellent pet, and as you know, they're surprisingly affectionate. Never had one, myself, but I've had mice...

yeah, mice are cute, I've had quite a few.
But they're just not the same as rats, I can let my rats out on the floor and they'll run around but I don't have to worry about losing them, or them running away.
Mice are so much more delicate and fragile too, where there's more rat to cuddle with without worrying to squish too much.

You're definitely right there. Our "head mouse" got out and decided to play for a few days, and he got terribly injured when one of our pooches accidentally stepped on him. I'd think rats would be made of tougher stuff.
