they have the worth you want them to have
Some people want to get as much of them as they can (the llamas that is) since you can only get one from each person they find different ways to get them.
The others can be special badges from DA or you can buy them for the people you want to give them to... like a birthday cake for example.

Normally people use the llamas to show someone respect or that they like them/their art/their gallery.

But they have no deeper meaning^^

I mostly forget about them until someone gives me one and then I just give them one back^^

But everyone handles it differntly

you will keep them anyway... it's just that you can only give one Llama to one person... you can give out three hundred Llamas but only to three hundred people
