Yeah, lines were unusually long during expo. Even the at con registration line was longer than usual. It was pretty crowded especially fri. and sat. just come for the photoshoots, no badge needed

Hi there! I wanted to ask you if you use Super Sculpey Firm with your Vallejo paints. Also, what's your opinion on the paint? Does it stick well to the clay and do you need more than one coat? I've been using acrylic paint on my polymer clay and I have to use a primer before I paint anything.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

SomaKun In reply to LadyMudkip [2013-11-04 06:30:43 +0000 UTC]

I've been using Kato Polyclay as of late but I also mix it with SS Firm from time to time. The Vallejo paints have been sticking onto the figures pretty good without primer. I'm favoring Vallejo paint at the moment but I want to tryΒ P3 by Privateer Press privateerpress.com/formula-p3/…. Β The only time Vallejo wasn't sticking to the figure was if I didn't dry my brush off enough from dip cleaning it in water so it thins out a little. But even then it sticks pretty well when I apply it on the figure.

Thank you! I think I'll buy a set on Amazon. Their prices are ridiculously low. How much did you pay for your paints?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

SomaKun In reply to LadyMudkip [2013-11-05 04:11:16 +0000 UTC]

I haven't bought any in a while as I just started getting back into sculpting but when I did, I paid under $3 for each bottle of Vallejo paint. But I actually picked them up at comic shops on sale.

I just came to say that you are A-w-e-s-o-m-e!!
I love your clay sculptures and most of all, your custom action figures!!! First, when I saw them I didnt know how you made them and then you said you used bases and then put clay on top of them to make them custom. I'd never thought of that! Thats incredible! I love your work, I hope to see more of it. (And oh I love your Grey Fox action figure.
I'm working with clay myself, so now I cant wait to try it out!! I hope that it's ok : ) I'll give you credit for the idea, of course!

Have a nice day : )

SomaKun In reply to Nakubi [2011-12-01 18:06:27 +0000 UTC]

Also I noticed you use air drying clay. I haven't tried that for custom action figure making though I can't say it wont work. I mostly use polymer clay for customs mostly because I can work on figures faster by using a heat gun to cure the clay so I can keep constantly working without having to wait much. I also use it because of it's durability. There are some polymer clays out there that if you cure them right, they can actually bend without braking. Though I can't say air dry clay isn't durable since I've recently been working with paper mache clay and that stuff gets pretty hard once it's fully cured

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Nakubi In reply to SomaKun [2011-12-01 21:46:19 +0000 UTC]

so you actually use clay that you have to heat? But wont the figure be damaged by the heat? And I never found any figures so I could try it out myself, yet. Though I hope to in the future, it looks to be a lot of fun. And thank you, I haven been working with clay for 6 months now and it's one of the things I enjoy doing the most.
I really like the new sculpture you submitted, it's so cute Good luck with the rest!

SomaKun In reply to Nakubi [2011-12-01 23:53:54 +0000 UTC]

The figure does get a bit soft when I bake it but it goes back to normal once it cools down. I use ceramic to bake it on though because if it sits on metal then it'll melt whatever part is touching the metal. When you do decide to try, look in flea markets or yard sales for figures to modify. You can find some there pretty cheap.

Thanks! glad you like me recent one ^_^
