# About me
I am a concept artist, illustrator, games designer and educator, not always in that order and rarely at the exclusion of the others. No matter that job I perform or part of my life I enjoy it is problem solving that is at the heart of it. Be that solving a visual puzzle for a client, trying to fill that hole in my sketchbook, figuring out how to explain negative space to a deaf person when I don’t know the sign for silhouette, or developing the consequences for my RPG players who drew genitalia on the demonic summoning ritual.
I have experience working on designing and illustrating educational books and games, creating concept art for fantasy and science fiction, as well as walking long distances without an shoes.

I rememebr when I was in infants school and my teacher asked as all to name our faverut animal. "Dogs", "Cats" and one advencherus "Girraf". And then one six year old cry comes "PANGOLIN!".
I'm a pangolin fanatic my dear. I rant on regulare ocasions in horror at people who dont know what they are, have produced Convergent evolution posters proclaiming thier awsomeness and am about to start my childrens ABC book "P is for Pangolin" which is a simple abc book but has O for Olm, L for Lamagier (Bearded volcher as i've spelt it wrong), S for Sarcastic Frindg head and W for Wombat.

I can imagine the blank expression on their faces when they heard the name. I remember that I used to play charade with my best friend as a child and we would try to mimic various animals. Pangolin was often among those, eventhough I don't remember what moves we did to. Probably walking on our knuckles and curling up. xD
It's wonderful to hear the amount of devotion you put into informing about the pangolin and other unknown animals and a childrens book is an awsome idea. Have you published books before? I'm planning on making a children's book with Willy (my pangolin) and Al'Capone the Tiger. I've been pondering if I could inclued somekind of message to the parents about the pangolin situation, but I'm not sure how or if it's even suitable in a children's book. Well, let's see what happens. so far I havn't actually started working on it other than inside my head and I've never published anything before either.

No nothing published im afraid, the P is for Pangolin will be for my self negotiated project in university. I'm only in my second year so i've got a little while to go before I get to there. I'm haveing the same problem with the parents question aswell. I want to use Fis for Fossa so that it becomes commenplace to children so that when they grow up they will be interested in it and be horrified about how indangered it is. The only problem is that as the parent reads the ABC book to said two year old, they might feel patranised as they have no idea what it is. Do i put a couple of little facts in for a bit of dule ordience or just leave it as a wonderful experience for the kids. then just baffeling and slightly humiliating for thier parents.
Would you be using the actuly hand made figures or drawing them? Theres is plenty of market for books to do with environmentel issues, they only thing is trying to find a plot devise that allows you to tell an interesting story and not jsut hitting them in the face with "ALL YOUR FAVERUT ANIMALS WILL DIE!!" A ffiend of mine is currently doing one about a panda who goes looking for food and all the animals offer them some of thiers. From which comes the title of the book "I cant eat that". Until the panda eats somones house made of bamboo. The persone inside learns its not nice to destroy peoples homes.
You could have something about people trying to steal Willy's magic, they steal his scales and his claws his magical staff and hat but when the person uses it it doesnt work. It only works if you leave it on the pangolin. Sure given some time you can think sof something. Just write down any random plot that comes into your head, you'd be amazed how silly some childrens books are.
Also where you try an publish it is important. England is very conservitive, America a bit less so but mainland Europe is the best place for unusual books that can be aimed at a slightly older audience.
Well i've rambeld on quite long enough.
(appolagise for spelling im feeling esspecialy dyslexic today)

Ah, well who knows. Maybe you will get the opportunity to publish it someday?
Hm, I think it all depends on how you present it. There's nothing wrong with bringing rare and unknown animals into a child's (and its parent's) awareness. As long as you keep the age of the child in mind and what a parent (who is the one to pick up the book and buy it) is expecting from it.
If the name is accompanied by a sweet and funny illustration of the animal, I doubt that the parent will feel patronised. Add some funny word that begins with the same letter as the animal (like wonky wombat) and maybe a few playful lines for the parent to read aloud and the child to mimic. In this case you need to see what animals fit into the book. If the name is impossible to say or spell, it won't do any good in a book for a two year old, but might work in a followup for slightly older children. I wouldn't squeeze in facts, but maybe sneak in some curiousities (again a playful approach is adviceable). The main goal is for the name to stick and to awaken the curiousity in both child and parent.
A way to hint, that the animals are in trouble, without rubbing it up the nose of the parent might be to make some kind of agreement with the publisher and a fond ofc), that a part of the money paid goes strait towards animal preservation and then add a symbol on the cover. That might be enough to provoke the parent into digging deeper and learning more. Atleast that's what I believe might happen. ;D
In Willy's case it's a story that I intend to illustrate with drawn pictures. I'm trying to keep my Siesta Universe free from human ifluence and I'm also trying to let my characters remain mainly animals, without turning them to small humans in animal costumes. It's an interesting suggestion, a somewhat aggressive one. I already have Willy's story in mind and no intention on making it a propaganda one. But I'm still pondering how to combine a children's tale with increased awareness of the parents. :3
I'm pondering where I should apply with my book (once I've written and illustrated it). Since I'm versed with both enlish and german (although I still need to work on my spelling xD), originate from Sweden but have moved to my fiance in Denmark, I'd be able to adapt my story to four languages without having to ask the services of a translator. Just wondering if publishers are defending their copyrights as viciosly as the music and movie publishers...? XD
And don't appologize for your ranting. It's very valuable input. :3

I dont normaly like that sort of childrens book prittyness but yours has a sertten extra level of depth. It reminds me quite a bit of Shaun Tan actuly, but not in a way to looks like you've niked his style or soemthing (I get irated when epople say that about some of my drawins jsut becosue its the first serial childrens book aouther they can think off)

Thank you very much!! I didn't recognize the name Shaun Tan, but then I saw he did "The Arrival", I never got to finish "reading" it, but my friend has it and I want to! It's a beautiful book!
Anyway, your comment means a lot to me, and I'm very flattered.

Haha! Aww, that's unfortunate. I don't have a student loan (getting one for the final year though). Usually I'm just scraping by, so when I do spend stuff it's only on necessities... Buying art is fun though!

Im very, very frugal and I get the full loan. I acylt had about £1000 left by the end of the summer when some of my other friends were in the red, I dont know how the hell they spend so much. Thogh I have spent nearly £200 on jsut art books this year, better than beet and faggs though.
