Studying creative writing and digital illustration; will probably end up a starving artist, but to me, that's still a step above being stuck in a cubicle with a pointy-haired boss hovering over me.No ATs or requests; sorry. Yep, I'm in Mix's class and Leah's Space class. In Mix's I sit by Dan and Travis, and in Space I usually sit by Laura... unless we're sculpting cake or whatever XD

You mean screentones, the "dotted" sort of gray, or the regular, flat gray?
Screentones:
If you don't want to do shadows or shading, you can do them in MS Paint by simply going to Properties and then selecting "Black and White."
If you DO want shading, I'd suggest investing in a program called Manga Studio Debut. I have version 4.0, but there are other versions available.
I spent a few months on my first-ever graphic story coloring it all on GIMP (which is free for download online; just google it) by meticulously copying and pasting layers of screentone samples I found online. This takes a long... long time.
Flat Gray:
Any photo-editing or painter-style software with layering capabilities will be able to handle this. I used GIMP because it's what I had. Just use layers and transparency.

how about using Adobe Photoshop?? I've got a version of 7.0...any ideas how to use it?? well, I really know how to use it, but in putting screen tones on exact places....i'm doomed.

I am lost at Adobe Photoshop, but I know you can use layers with it. I'd copy and paste layers of screentones (google "screentones" and copy/paste) on underneath the lineart and then erase the excess.
