My Base Work
My base work is usually done with the original picture's color palette. I use Microsoft Paint in order to select each individual color.
When unsatisfied with my base work, I tend to use the shading of either skin palette to create a blush-like texture. The texture usually forms a lattice-like structure starting with the darkest shading and then gets lighter when using the lighter shading. The lightest shading usually is almost to the same color as the default skin color so it looks like the blush 'faded' out.
To touch up things, I use the white color in Microsoft Paint to make the blush look revealing. So I pick the brush tool and pick the smallest square brush and add a white highlight to the blush.
