# About me
Website: trichotome-design.com/On Tumblr: trichotome.tumblr.com/
NOTE: I don't really use this site all that often anymore. I still sketch, but just don't often draw stuff that would warrant being put up here. I'm still checking from time to time to look at messages and to follow other artists. I also won't get rid of anything since I know it's annoying when other artists archive their stuff (even if I don't think much of what I have here is really up to par). But yeah, don't expect anything new here anytime soon.
I'm a multimedia and design graduate at Carleton University/Algonquin College looking to get into game design. I enjoy drawing, writing, comedy, psychology, sociology, and mulling over philosophical matters. If you are looking at this page though, you are most likely here for the former (drawings, that is), so I digress. My works are rather varied in reality, though I mostly only put my fan art here (I have an awful fear of having my original designs stolen).
If you're looking to converse with me for some inane reason, send me a message here, on Tumblr, or any other social media you can find me on (I do read all my messages, even if I'm sometimes slow to reply). If you are someone I am familiar with, however, there is no need to try to reach me. I will find you.
Current Residence: Montréal, Canada (previously Ottawa, Canada)
Favourite genre of music: Anything with an enjoyable melody. From classical to heavy metal.
Favourite style of art: Drawing (Realism or Cartooning, including animé). I'm pretty open to anything, though.
Operating System: Windows 7
Wallpaper of choice: Metallic Hexagons
Personal Quote: "Indeed."
Oh also I made these at one point (Full set here: warcry31.deviantart.com/art/Ho… ) :
And the art for these (though the icons are courtesy of ) (Full set here: warcry31.deviantart.com/art/Ho… ) :
Additionally, I made this Homestuck Troll Personality quiz: warcry31.deviantart.com/journa…
On a side note, if you made a comment or favourited something of mine and I did not reply or thank you, my apologies. Consider this a thank you for such occasions. THANK YOU!

I don't post to this site anymore (I only use it to keep tabs on some artists I enjoy), but I know how annoying it is when artists archive all their work, so I'll leave my old stuff here for posterity.
If you need to reach me for whatever reason, I'm at www.trichotome-design.com/

As always, the favourites were very much earned. I'm flattered that you still remember little old me (I'll keep on kicking, just in case). Speaking of which, how's it going? Perhaps it's because I've only been able to visit DA sporadically these days, but it seems like you blasted out a whole bunch of new stuff in a very short time...
Ha! That's great to hear, thanks! It's must easier to keep updating something small and versatile, compared to the sense of obligation to post only complete things here.

Ahhh, of course I remember how could I possibly forget?! Those text walls, man...will always live in my heart (and on dA somewhere probably)
It goes alright! I keep teetering around on the line of "Yeah I'm awesome!" and "What am I doing here?", I guess it's just work and school colliding. Might have taken on more than I can handle this semester and it's my lightest unit-wise. We'll see how it goes, hopefully I can transfer soon.
Yeah, the new stuff was from an event called "Inktober" where we were supposed to draw one inked picture a day. I made mine too complicated and only made like...20 or so. xD;; Which is alright, I can live with that since it's still a pretty big number.
You're welcome! And yeah, I totally get that. *- @;;; I feel like dA's more of my portfolio, but I guess I'm loosening up on that thought. Almost-to-done pieces are going up now haha...just to keep a steady update I suppose. :9 How are you on the art front? Still going to school? :0
(Also, didn't you go to the Vancouver Film School?)

You might want to compress them then. Large as it may be you wouldn't want to fill it up with THAT much text.
Ah I see. The eternal dilemma then. Though truly you mustn't teeter around that line. The truth is clearly the former of those two things. Hang in there! Also what are you planning on transferring to? Or from...Admittedly I don't recall stuff. It's gotten hard to keep track lately. If I might be so blunt, what are you up to these days? I mean aside from the Inktober thing I'm about to mention catching was a thing.
Ah yes I did catch that as being a thing, though admittedly I didn't know anything about it other than "it involves ink and it's in October". 20 is pretty impressive! Way to go! Heck of a lot more than I would have managed.
Yeah. I tried doing that a while back here, then I reverted to putting them in my scraps, then I just gave up on it. There weren't enough people looking at them to warrant me putting them here (though I still get loads of messages from that one troll thing I did ages ago because apparently people still can't get enough of that for some reason). At least on Tumblr I can bury them under random junk pretty quickly. In your case you post frequently enough and your works are sufficiently polished that they fit in here quite well (which is to say they are very nice and as such very much merit admiration).
Art stuff is going well on my end, albeit slowly. I did three portraits a couple weeks back and was pretty happy with them (though they are far from perfect). Those are up on Tumblr in my art tag if you care to look. I then had the odd experience of finding out that one of the people I'm currently working with at my job looks almost identical to my headcanon for one of my original characters and it continues to weird me out to this day (however, I did manage to get some reference pictures of him for my own use). I'm only taking a single class at the moment because of co-op (that class is anthropology, which is quite fun by the way), but I'll be going back to a normal school schedule come January. I must admit, being away from school for a year makes the notion of a transition kind of jarring...
(Close...Well kinda. We discussed that school at some point, but I'm in no way involved with it. I'm in Ottawa, and am going to Carleton University. Incidentally, I'm also now the vice president of our program's student association, which is cool: We're setting up a room as a lounge for students from our program: with couches and a coffee machine and everything. It's pretty great.)

Hey, thanks for the message!
I'd be happy to make such an icon! Quick question though: what would the design differences be? The eyelashes are kind of a given, though what other differences in appearance should I include? If you have any references I can work off of that would be a big help.
As for the points, don't worry about it. I don't have much use for them. ; )

Thank you so much~!
As for reference for Male terezi--
* flat chest/no breasts
*no eyelashes
*no lipstick
*keep her/his glasses
* and keep it in the exact same basing like the other one
* since she/he has no pupils, it won't look as funny as the original, so maybe you could work around that to make it funny~? ^w^ I'd love to help you brainstorm if you're stumped on the idea.
* but if we can't think of anything, then just leave it be. >w<
And I am so grateful for you fro doing this, thank you thank you~! ^w^
When would it be done, if you don't mind me asking?

And I must say that for a learner you are showing a great deal of promise. Your current work is already quite good! I'm sure that if you keep practicing, you will accomplish marvelous things (and in the end, no artist ever really stops learning ; ) ).
Thank you for the music suggestion. As it happens, I've heard a good few of his pieces, though I never really took the time to look into his full library. He is indeed very cool.

Heh, well rest assured I speak the truth. You already have some good examples of skill with perspective, proportions, and have something of a distinctive style shaping up. ; )
If I might offer some meager assessments, your style appears to be more free-form in terms of structure (less emphasis on skeletal accuracy) and generally "messy" (more scribbles and curves rather than straight lines or flat textures). This generally lends itself to a grittier and more stylized technique, and often makes excellent use of textures and darkness. If you were to try and take advantage of these traits, my recommendation would be to seek out similar artists and see how they deal with textures and shading, and perhaps play with some different unique forms (mutated creatures, for example, is a popular theme in this genre). Generally after trying enough different types, you can find a comfortable niche for yourself.
Alternatively if you want to expand to more varied styles, I'd suggest looking into geometric structures and skeletal forms, since these will help provide a good foundation from which you can make better use of perspective and motion.
Of course, you can always just go ahead and try whatever you like (art doesn't really have rules, after all). I hope my suggestions might give you some ideas, if nothing else. : )
In any case, thank you for the kind words, and I too wish you the best of success in your endeavors!

Ah hello! As a matter of fact I do remember. I'm glad to hear that I was of some use!
I checked out your comic, and I can definitely say you've made some great strides forward. Your comic composition and story-boarding are both quite good, and your first page did manage to make me chuckle.
In terms of recommendations, I'd say one of the first things you might want to look into is pencil pressure (I'm assuming you're working with pencils here, though this applies to pens, crayons, and the like as well). Using pressure and pencil angle variations can really help with the definition of your work and make it pop out, which I think would complement your style quite well.
There's a principle called line weight you may find useful in giving more sense of depth and clarity to your images (basically, that just means varying the thickness of your outlines). Good examples of this can be found in most vector styles (MLP is a great example of this technique in vector illustrations, while Pokémon has some god examples in their official art, and it's extremely easy to find a ton of references for both). The easiest way to do this in practice with a pencil is to get a really sharp pencil, and vary the angle and pressure with which you apply it to the page (the more pressure and the more on its side the pencil is when it touches the page, the ticker the line, you can also draw it over multiple times to give it a denser look, which is good for big solid areas like arms and legs).
The other aspect of pressure that would be useful is smooth shading. My guess from looking at your drawings is that to shade you scratch the pencil back and forth with the pencil at a pretty straight angle (so the tip is pointing more at the page). Something you might want to try is to sharpen your pencil up, then press it at a low angle so it's almost flat on the page. This way, rather than using the tip, you can use the side of the lead and press more lightly, which should give a smoother shading which will help make things more defined. Another thing you can check out is blenders. These are an art tool that are basically just paper rolled up to look like a pencil. You simply rub it against your drawn shading and it smudges it to makes things look a lot smoother, which can be good to soften up background elements like roads or even clothing textures.
I hope those are helpful. You've already made a good bit of progress with your style, and I'm confident that with practice it will get even better. I'll be sure to keep a lookout for your work in the meantime. All the best!

wow... I have no words to thank you enogh for what you've done. For starters, thank you for remembering me and saying I've become better.
On your advice, you're right. I gotta learn to color properly with crayons if I want to keep using them. Also shading, that's important. I'll see if I can develop those technics among the things I'm learning right now (I'm also learning how to play guitar! My fingers hurt...).
Thank you again! I've had a couple of inactive days. I'll do my best from now on and make the best comic I can do!
See ya! 8 D.
