Noticed you haven't been making new works in a while; I think that's a huge pity. You're one of the few writers I've seen who takes note of the implications of obesity and acts on itΒ in the direction of health.

Ok, I got a few questions like this. What I'm looking for is something new. I've read all your articles so I don't really want to see something repeated. But, I will make an exception. This contest is when I want you to come out with a belly story great! But, if you can't think of anything, and I mean ANYTHING by the 20th, you may post one of your old stories. But don't exepect to get first. THINK HARD! Hope to see something new!

It seems I have a LOT of catching up to do.
How have you been? I've been so busy, I can't even believe how long it's been since I've visited this site. It doesn't help that I don't have my own computer, though I think that might change by the end of the year.
I need to start some of your stories over, from the top, so I can remember all the details. And then I'll let you know what I think. I added three more chapters to my story called "Claudia." I hope you read them.
Later!
Chels

I just saw the new chapters today, and I promise that they are on my to-do list.
I have been busy, too, though I probably have spent more time on these stories than I should have spent on them; ah, well
If you were thinking of restarting Danielle, you might want to check the recent additions section on the Dimensions forum; I have updated versions of the first 4 (soon to be 5) chapters posted there which I think are much better than the versions I posted here. The later chapters will be as is, but I've had such a style change that I thought that the first few needed the help
I hope your search for a computer goes well (I find mine quite essential these days).
La~

Awesome!
Don't feel obligated to give detailed critiques, though I always appreciate them. As my time gets more precious, I realize how much that is to expect of someone.
...Though I do plan on commenting on yours!

I love your work! Although a bit dense at times it's written with a great wit, patience and humor. just giving you the thumbs-up! keep doing what you're doing.

Wetsobem In reply to suit-of-nine [2008-11-30 16:16:34 +0000 UTC]
Thank you very much for the pointed compliments!
I am aware, at times, of the density of some things I write as I am putting them down (but you wouldn't believe what it's like before I read it over again!), and I try to cut it down, somewhat. I believe that I have gotten better as time passes, but if I did everything perfectly the first time, then there would be no reason for me to keep writing
Oh--almost forgot! Thank you for watching my page, too.

hmm, probably like Dickens. (ew! he's impossible to read) Orwell is more my taste, but that's beside the point. I know the burden of progress....
of course!

Yes, I see that you have quite an extensive gallery; mostly poetry, right? I dabble in that a little myself, but nothing of mine would belong on my DA page.
One thing I like about Dickens: his asides. He often switches between direct and implied asides to the reader, even within a single novel or story, but they are never disruptive.

Thanks for noticing! I am actually more of a visual artist, but when it comes to writing, I definitely prefer poetry. I xan't seem to link a piece of prose together, really
Asides win. Yeah, I never noticed them when I read Dickens (probably ebecause I was too confused to notice X[)
My experiences with the fourth wall have been basically Brighton Beach Memoirs.

Wetsobem In reply to suit-of-nine [2008-12-02 00:36:39 +0000 UTC]
I have nothing negative to say about Neil Simmon, but I have not seen/read that one. Stage fourth-walls are a little different, though. There is a distinction between stage and prose apostrophes in terms of their rendering and execution. There is almost always more content in prose asides than in plays because much of the content in plays is meant to be portrayed by the actor; he must create the context as he speaks the words. In literature, the context must be inherent in the words themselves because, even in first person narration, the words are all you have from which to build the speaker, his inflections and verbal implications, and the context under which the words are spoken or thought. I view both as difficult and distinct arts. I actually often try to write as if I were writing words for stage actors to say, and I give description as I would like men and women to interpret stage cues.

Yes, I think Rudyard Kipling does a little of both, it's all in the art of storytelling.
I notice you really make your conversations as real as possible. There's no fluff anywhere, really. Though I love fluff, it's sweet when two people fall in love instantly (however unrealistic it may be)

Wetsobem In reply to suit-of-nine [2008-12-02 02:02:05 +0000 UTC]
Romanticism ought to be the goal of fiction writers; that is my credo. It embodies the soul of storytelling: it requires fantasy, but without a firm grounding in humanity, in organic and touchingly authentic traits in characters and events, the story is repulsively unbelievable. True romanticism takes the things that make human life beautiful and then purifies them. I am very pleased, for that reason, that you find my dialogue very realistic: I don't think that it is at all. I write it idealistically. I would love nothing more than to be able to say in real life some of the things that I write--I long for it--but never, never have I heard it from a human mouth, not outside of movies or plays. When I read it and it seems right to me, I know that it seems right because it is more pointed and emotionally poignant than what people really say; the words seem right only if they are the things--the ideas, really--that I believe people long to say but never do. They would only say them this way if they could back up and write them again, like writers do.

wow, you really said it.
I especially enjoy solid dialogue between two people. And that's what writing is--sort of giving everyone a chance to live a perfect life, for just a little while. I've never been more nervous than when I read Gone With the Wind, during the war scene, when Melanie was giving birth I was so frantic....but that's what I adore about literature!
