*cough* having read your comment about the model in this pic ,
please allow me to disagree. As the owner of that 'level stare;, I assure you it has never 'levelled' anyone, warm blooded or not. Thank you for praising the photographer, though.

Have you ever had a dream, that you were so sure was real? What if you were unable to wake from that dream? How would you know the difference between the dream world and the real world?
What you know you can't explain, but you feel it. You've felt it your entire deviant life, that there's something wrong with the story. You don't know what it is, but it's there, like a splinter in your mind, driving you mad.
You take the blue pill, the story ends. Your browser closes and you believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill, you stay in wonderland. And, I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes.
I offer only the truth, nothing more.
Take: The Red Pill
Take: The Blue Pill
spyed, nobody has ever done this before.
I know. That's why it's going to work.

Seems odd for someone hovering so close to 10,000 pageviews to be MIA. How/where the heck are ya, man?

Thanks for the info, the nikon one is about the same price as the minolta, so they are both expensive. I might give a flatbed scanner a try as I'm thinking most of my printing will be done from the slide anyway...

lightningbolt [2003-02-07 22:49:17 +0000 UTC]
I've got a Canon FS4000US which is supposed to be a pretty good scanner, I've just been struggling with getting results that are comparable to the actual slide, especially in darker areas like the rock at the bottom of that photograph, on the slide the rock at the bottom lis lighter, showing much more detail, yet the sky and snow is also deeper and has more richness on the slide. I'm stumped at the moment. I'm considering in a few months getting a larger film scanner, the Nikon medium format one as I have started medium format slides recently as well, it is supposed to have a higher dynamic range which might help.
You have a Minolta scanner don't you?

Thanks for your comments on my latest shot of Mt Cook, just taking another look at the pic, I see there is more tonal range on the original slide than the deviation. I've have a feeling my scanner might be lacking in that regard...

"Neat" Haven't heard that in a long while. Just saw that you had another pic that escaped my watch....mark one more mystery deviation on the watch found.
Thanx for the comment btw.

Yeah... seems to be the right term; however, I did it manually rather than use a program to do it. The exposure was fairly even - wouldn't AE lock prevent exposure differences? But that was probably due to the night. Yeah, I used a mini tripod. A handy little thing and completely adjustable so I don't have to lug a huge one around. I just sat on the other side of the bay and snapped 3 shots inbetween the posts. I did make sure that there was plenty of overlapping happening so that I could delete the hard edge with a soft brush so that there would be no apparent joining. And, as I said, I used the transform>skew tool holding down SHIFT to line up the edges and at the same time maintaining a straight horizontal line. I'm sure this could be done to mathematic perfection with a panoramic program, but it doesn't seem to like me.

If by "stitch" you mean a combination of photos, yes. Three photos combined in Photoshop by skewing the dimensions. Thanks so much for the comment! Night shots are always pretty

Ancient Chinese Secret!
No, really, those coins were part of the setup for the Chinese New Year they had at The Bellgio Conservatory. They were actually much larger than they are in the picture. "The Emperor" (remember him, the BIG guy?) was standing on those piles. Each coin was probably as big around as an extra large pizza. (Those are about 14 inches in diameter, right??) Maybe bigger than that even. I'm not great at figuring size equivalents.
And there you have it!

i find ilford unpredictable, but in a positive way, he he. i tried kodak t-max but was very disappointed with the colours. it was probably the printing lab's fault, i guess.
