Looking back over it, I don't think this photo was bad.

It might not be perfect, but it tries to capture a gentle yet powerful image of dawn rising over head. And while having a nicer camera might not magically make me a better photographer, if you were stuck with an old iPhone I'm sure not many would respect your photos either.

Well for one I wasn't asking the opinion on the photos, just why one was more popular. And two, your sunset pictures (or twilight) are extremely dull and uninteresting, so I'm curious what makes mine "bad" and your's "good"?

And in my first reply to your post, I told you why I thought the photo was more popular. "No matter how bad" was actually supposed to refer to a wider variety of photos, not yours specifically, I guess that wasn't clear and could have been worded better in the subsequent reply.

Are you referring to the stock photos of sunset skies I have? Because they're stock photos, there to be used by others as a part of a photo-manipulation or as a reference, they're were never supposed to stand on their own. I don't think they are particularly good on their own: the composition is lacking, foreground is boring and too dark, there could be more contrast/colours in the clouds themselves. But someone could find them useful as part of their own work.
