Actually... If you don't take the shot, then you automatically get a 0, same as if you miss it. If you take the shot, you get the chance of a 1,2,3, in basketball terms. 

So like before, You miss those shots you don't take.

Well, for starters you can give a theme to each gym, more than only the type. For example, a fighting type gym could be focused on karate, boxing, wrestling, etc. A grass type gym could be themed as a forest, jungle,a farm, etc.

With the topic on mind you can take an element from that theme (Like boxing gloves, karate belt, trees ) and use its basic shape as the base for your badge xD

I don't know what else to say, you can also play with elements according to each type, a fist, a flame, a light bulb, a claw/fang (dragons), etc.

Yeah, I've been thinking about how to theme my gyms. I know that I want Baleglade town to have pokémon related to farming as there's farms nearby, Swathercliff Village, i want that to be focused around strong pokémon that can handle living near the canyons, and for Rollerstone Town i want it to be fighting type specified, as there's a mine nearby.

For Baleglade you can use a barn or a berry bush. I'm not sure about Swathercliff, I would need to think more xD

Rollerstone badge could be a pikeaxe, a minecart or even the rails.
