well, thank you for that flattering comment.

often people go to my page and ask me if i'm ever bothered that i only have a couple hundred page views, while others have tens of thousands. i just tell them that it is true, my little corner has been collecting some dust. but for me, it is better to be in the shadows with a good handful of sincere neighbors than be among those who merely wish to bask in the limelight.

comments like yours reinforce that.

but aye, it is always nice to get a little attention now and then. haha. thanks for that, neighbor. 'hope you don't mind me stalking you.

ps. good luck with your classes. college is a great experience. my course in college was in the visual arts as well (figure drawing...yum), though more geared towards commercial advertising. its awesome that theyre teaching you Maya.

... from my edge of the 3D world, I've found this to be true:

... growth has been slow but steady, and looking for a job in the field is a lot better than it was 2 years ago... problem is, there is such a glut of good 3D artists out there now looking for work, the salaries are going down and employers can literally pick and choose who they want, often based on who is willing to bend over backwards for a position (i.e., work as an intern for free for 6-12 months)... staff positions are almost non-existant, and a good 3D artist better figure on living the life of a gypsy, traveling from one contract job to another...

... you and I are competing with 1000's of people out there with years more experience than most students... getting a foot in is the biggest challenge, but once you get that first bit of gold in your resume and portfolio, it should be easier...

... thanks, I definitely need the crits now that I don't have any instructors breathing down my back ... I hear ya 'bout the imagery for the bunches of grass; they're all just flat picture planes with opacity maps applied... the next actual 3D illustration I do will have more time devoted to detailing background elements, because they can (as you prove) detract from the foreground if they are the least bit skewed or goofy-looking...

Thanx for the comments... you have some nice work in your gallery... As for my cannon render; i never was happy with the barrel of the cannon either...but i was still learning. There is also a layer of film grain in the image that is probably the grainyness you see

I appreciate the feedback... the background will eventually be blurred in a depth-of-field effect which doesn't show up on the still I uploaded... the *.avi looks so much more convincing because the trees and grass are all slightly out of focus, making them look farther away than they actually are...
