Hello there. I'm trying to do the diet coke mentos thing too (I see you've done that a few years ago), but with no success. I'm trying to photograph it aswell, but I just can't figure it out.
So, basically, the only things you need are diet coke, and minty mentos? Or what works best?

Most sodas work well. It doesn't have to be any particular soda. In the photos I took, you can see that my scientist friend, Dan, used a test tube and a piece of cardboard to release the mentos quickly. To photograph it you just need a sunny day. You'll want an exposure time of maybe 1/1000 seconds or shorter to freeze the action. Good luck.
