First off, thanks for the fav's and the watch! I really appreciate it.
And I'm glad to see someone trying to organize some collaborative efforts. Unfortunately, I've just started a project of my own, that hopefully will pop off soon. But if you ever want to collaborate on something, just send me a message and I'll get back as soon as I can.

Hiya! Just had a look through your gallery. I really like your style - it's very professional in nature. The lines are ultra smooth, and you've got a fabulous handle on colouring... also, it's clear that you've got the skills for digital painting, as well. A multi-talented artist - i'm sure there's a career in artistry, if you want it!

Thanks so much! That means a lot to me! If you like my stuff, go ahead and give me a watch! I plan on uploading more often soon. Also, a friend and I are trying our hand at doing a comic, so there's also that to look forward to. Again, I really appreciate the uplifting comments! Please check back for more!

What's a good way to work on a hard perspective? I'm trying to get a feel for a shot from the foot of something but it keeps looking dumb.
Halp.

guhin In reply to TheDojosnake [2011-01-07 10:25:00 +0000 UTC]
LOL. Well, perspective is a very hard skill to master, so don't expect anything amazing without a solid amount of practice.
That being said, the best way I've found to practice perspective, or in your case, foreshortening (This is the perspective of a human figure from a dynamic angle), is to start off by copying poses or pictures that display the foreshortening you're trying to achieve. If you can't find a sample picture of the angle you want, it's always a good idea to take a picture of you or someone else from the angle you're trying to achieve, and use the photo as a basis to start your drawing off of. Other than that, it takes a very well-trained mind to whip up a good foreshortening piece off the top of your head.
I still find foreshortening from the angle your describing very hard to achieve, because I haven't really taken the time to practice it myself. But, practicing any foreshortening angle should help to give you a better grasp over what a figure would look like from any angle in particular.
Remember that foreshortening is actually drawing a picture in a way to almost trick the viewer into seeing it dynamically; meaning that general anatomy drawing rules won't necessarily apply, because the image is technically skewed in a way to create more of a "pop off the page" effect. For instance, usually your arm-span is equal to your height, but because of foreshortening, one arm should look severely shorter than the other, making this rule void. Also, comic books are the best reference for foreshortening, as this technique is always used to create a more interesting comic to read.
I hope this helps, but understand that foreshortening and perspective are both very hard skills to master, and also difficult to teach.

It's not bad. You've got some good things going on, you could just use some practice in other areas, at least when it comes to 2-D. And your 3-d is better than what I can do, so I respect that. Just keep workin' at it.

I was curious about the trial head, but still, I don't even know any Z-brush. And trust me, 11 weeks for that model is better than I can do.
As far as the 2-D, the examples you provided were the ones that I had taken a look at, and I agree those are some of your best. The snowman piece has great emotion and is rendered well traditionally. The Orc is showing developing Photoshop painting skills, that only need to be practiced more to help define them better. Another one that stood out to me was at the end, in "Ewww...thanks but no thanks," the characters are done in a very simple yet effective style, and all I can suggest from there is maybe try drawing the same pic again in Illustrator, since you can really focus on the simple techniques you used and make them shine in their awesome vector form once you complete it. I hate to make you read so much, but I wanted to give as much advice as I could think of, as I enjoy being able to help. Just remember, practice makes perfect, so keep on drawing.

alright
i dont hate geting long messages XD
thanks, that last idea for the last one is kinda cool
i dont really know why i put it in there, but cool.
im working on a dragon and knight comic thing for class, so i cant really redo old art, but as soon as i get free time, i will.
i also was only slighly aproved by my parents on my art profession, i think thats why im so bad at digital, i never had it till the last year....
i envey you slighly younger kids who got to be rased on photoshop... and stuff. best i had for a long time was ms paint XD
thanks, leave a long comment anytime

guhin In reply to mrkillzo [2010-01-30 07:45:17 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, I really think that last piece would look great in Illustrator. Keep on it with the comic, I just started a web-comic idea, and it's been a lot of fun so far.
I can't really say my parents ever held me back from chasing an art career, but I started Photoshop with an illegal copy and literally taught myself everything I know with only a little bit of help from random tutorials online.
And don't feel bad, I worked on pixel art in MS paint for a couple of years, and actually developed my skills in a program similar to paint, with only a couple add-ons to allow me to do better pieces.
But if you ever want some advice, just feel free to ask, I enjoy sharing my knowledge and thoroughly enjoy serious critiques. I'm glad you took my earlier critique well, as I always worry that someone might take it the wrong way.

nope, i never take advice the wrong way. but every one else on here sure does XD example "you have the tumb on the wrong side of the hand" nuh uh...." yes huh" continues, then stop talking. they come back after an hour and say "whoops" becuse others started agreening with me xD
yeah, when i stared in photoshop, things worked about the same way. i impressed some people with old paint stuff with a mouse though XD (a old happy tree frind fan pic i made XD)
okay, ill ask you anything that comes up
ill have to remmber to give you a critque some time. nothing stuck out too much today
