For many of my friends who are atheist (as opposed to agnostic) I think the sticking point they have is that the Truth as held by comes from a time when people knew alot less than is known now, and much of what is known now is wildly at odds with revealed Truth, which they find impossible to square away.

Meh yanno I think the whole discussion was a blessing in disguise: In arguing so much it made me really think about the things i hold to be true and my faith is stronger as a result!
