Don't worry about developing a unique style too much-- as long as you're consistently drawing, you're going to develop an art style regardless of if you're trying or not. It's an inevitability as an artist!

if you want to get get even better at cartoons, the best way to do it is by studying realism. i know that sounds counter-intuitive, but it's really the truth. there are a lot of little subtle things like posture or weight/depth that you can only get from studying from realism that will increase your ability to draw cartoons even more.
So, i'd say, keep doing studies like gestures and portraits (especially of different emotions) everyday while drawing your cartoon style on the side. you could even do side by side studies, where you take a reference image, do a quick cartoon version of it, then do a serious "realism" study of it, then try again at a cartoon version. you may find the second cartoon drawing to be way better than the first.
