Last but not least, I promise! First off a thank you for all of your encouraging comments and support over the years. I really appreciate it.

You have really made some nice skill jumps over the last two years. I'd love to see you do more traditional works (Midori Sun is sublime). You have proven that you can do complex, fully realized works. I, of course, understand time constraints and priorities.

You tend to have a nice value range and balance, even in the majority of your "flat" colored pieces.

I think you still occasionally battle with proportions. Your anatomy is pretty good, but the parts don't always fit as smoothly as they could. I am not sure how much of this is caused by rushing past the sketching stage and how much is gaps in knowledge (I have certainly been guilty of both at times!).

I think some environmental studies, both natural and man-made would be helpful in improving your backgrounds. You have a tendency to keep them simple, which isn't necessarily bad as it keeps the focus on your subjects, but proving to yourself that you can confidently tackle complex environments is important. Basically allowing yourself to say "been there, done that, but I prefer to work this way" so you can fully own your chosen mode of work rather than being stuck in a comfortable rut that you've never tried to roll past.

There's not much else I can really say because you have a lot of the pieces you just need to put them together. You have it in you it's just a matter of putting it out on the page. I can see the work you've put in to get to this point and it has really paid off. More studies and pushing yourself to take on those ambitious works and I think you could really start reaping the rewards.

I hope you are able to find the time and drive to keep pushing forward and developing your art. Good luck and remember you can always give me a nudge!

Thank you so much! I really do want to start pushing myself in many regards- to be more consistent, efficient, and not be selectively detailed in some areas, while rushing in others (lineart vs. backgrounds, for instance)

Proportions really are a constant struggle for me, so I know exactly what you mean. Especially with my horses, I feel like I can get the parts right but they all look like they belong to different individuals! I think I need to keep working on getting a whole sketch down right off the bat, rather than making anything too detailed too soon. Gestural stuff and the like, which would probably also help with stiffness.

Overall, this is very encouraging! It really is fantastic to have someone who will take the time to give quality feedback. I sometimes suffer from a bit of paralysis with my work, where I can't get it exactly how I want it so I just stare and beat myself up over it without actually getting anything done. It makes me really happy to hear you praise not just my work, but the progress I've made over the last few years, so thank you!

Thank you very, very much!

Selective detail can work if it pertains to your area of focus (detail) and "everything else" (less detail), but it has to be purposeful and not at random to help set up your composition and focal hierarchy and there is definitely a difference between "rushed" and "spent less time on," the former meajing tou didn't spend the time you should have on a piece or portion and the latter simply being a function of physical time spend compared to another area or piece. You can certainly "rush" a 30 hour piece, but overwork something else in just ten!

Gestures are great both for creating cohesive drawings quickly and also developing a sense of proportion. Drawing from references, even if it's just a big group of sketches, helps build the muscle memory, develop one's eye, and sensitivity to how things connect to each other. I know some artists always "warm up" with a page or two of gesture drawings.

You are most welcome! I like to give the feedback that I myself would like to receive.

I found one of the most helpful things I learned during my college classes was that drawings go through an "ugly" stage. Maybe not all of them, but a lot reach a stage where you just have to trust the process and your own skill because if you don't you miss out on a potentially beautiful piece and the chance to grow through the challenge of problem solving. I think digital work allows a lot of people to avoid having to make decisions about their work and can keep a piece artificially "clean," which is another reason that I find working traditionally important to any artist's education regardless of how they ultimately end up working.

I'm excited to see your future work just as I have enjoyed watching you get to this point! I hope you are able to work past some of your fears and charge full steam ahead!

Gift for you <3: agentqstables.deviantart.com/a…

I don't know if you will read this before you read the artist comments to the picture, but I will have to cancel our breeding plans for Gin and Belle. I am so sorry to be such a disappointment on this. These last 4 days have opened my eyes with my real life situation and I am pretty much closing down AQS because of it, but for good reasons. The account will stay up, as will the art, and I will keep drawing, but in a different way. I am planning on doing a big art piece soon to explain what happened in my life to cause such a change in my life. But I wanted to make sure you got something for consolation at least for me backing out. It might be a while, but I also will do Belle ^_^
