It depends on how you network. the louder you scream, the more people will hear you.

ladyvoid In reply to ladyvoid [2012-02-02 20:44:54 +0000 UTC]

I haven't networked much, mostly because I'm too busy - the process takes time. But for my facepainting gig, I got alot of parents who called me back for parties and such through networking alone. I only worked for about a month for facepainting before I had to go to school, but I made around 100$ a week, excluding tips.

I have no clue, man. Maybe it's something called the RECESSION, perhaps?
But it's also about motivation. How late do you get up? And do you have a certain project you're working on? Explore the world! Trust me, you can find many ways to travel to new places without using much money, and it can in many ways be inspirational. You know the world's gettin' more competitive these days, so grab it by the balls are ride it! (Woa... I shoulda just said "grab it by the horns... '~')

a recession?IN SUNNYVALE? i thought we weren't so hard hit here
you mean how early, i've been waking myself around 2 or 4 am. when it's still dark, nice and quiet outside able to schedule what i shall be doing for the rest of the day...which is mostly news, books, doodle, and movie. i'd prefer to travel around with no money ;D i have been walking around looking at shops for hiring signs and searching for dropped lil moneies on the ground but still i've mostly made myself busy with attempting to finish off the ever growing stack of books i've got at the foot of my bed. hmmm competetiveness..ball grabbing it all sounds a bit too fast-paced for lil ol' me at the moment(although the last thing is a good way of getting some extra cash xD)but i haven't completely fallen off the track.

Come on! You didn't know there was a recession?! We're in silicon valley - we are one of the regions hit the hardest. Ofcourse, you're probably going to see this pattern more with the higher paying jobs. Engineers and stuff. I'm sure they're struggling. Your daily schedule is so random, lol. There's nothing wrong with that, so long as you are heading somewhere creatively...

lol i've heard of it, but i haven't really felt it, even though we're getting a lil and lil closer to not being able to pay rent >> lol maybe i have a knack for adapting to worsening living situations. AND THAT IS WHY I VERY MUCH,like it the way it is without any other distractions of college stuff >> I AM HEADING EVERYWHERE CREATIVELY, you know how i was in the classroom not being able to concentrate on any on thing for any extended period of time, so the schedule i have now fits me perfectly, letting my spaztic lil mind wander everywhere and anywhere at once, kinda like one of those long straps of paper with sticky glue on it used to attract and trap flies on it.

oh no, i'm already very aware of the peoples compulsion to buy weird lil trinkets or to obsessively collect utterly useless things they might happen to find of interest, hell i'm almost certain that i could convince someone to buy a potatoe chip that kinda looks like E.T. BUT...i also get distracted...a lot, although thanks for reminding about that etsy website, i'll look into making an account there and scrounge around for some materials and ideas and paper clip them together in some way

YES INDEED, ADD. and i do read and watch motivational things to motivate me into getting into action, sometimes it does get me pumped up, SO VERY PUMPED UP BUT, i live in the moment and once that moment is gone i'm back to being a lazy lazy potatoe, or a potatoe with mixed up priorities >> so don't strain yourself too much on being all that motivational haha

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ladyvoid In reply to aristocrat-rabbit [2012-01-24 18:24:42 +0000 UTC]

I'm just saying, procrastination and laziness is a deep hole to fall into, and hard to get out. You said so yourself; it's what's stopping you. You know where procrastination comes from? Fear. That's it. so stop acting like a primate scared of jumping off the tree because there is a jaguar below.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

aristocrat-rabbit In reply to ladyvoid [2012-01-25 23:41:37 +0000 UTC]

yes i've been very well aware of all that for some time now, fear is the only thing in my way, keeping myself from immersing myself in art for fear of messing up means i've already made my fear come true, it's a very simple action to just move my wrist about and etc.etc.. BUT... inspiration become shortlived and i go back into that hole like a groundhog, music does help inspire me a bit, but i just end up using up that energy unproductively, taking a left turn when i know i should've gone to the right and could but then i overcomplicate a simple lil thing like that and end up doing the very minimal, i don't believe you can tell me anything else that i haven't already gone over myself, maybe i should hire someone to flog me when i'm couch potatoeing about xP

ladyvoid In reply to aristocrat-rabbit [2012-01-27 19:20:05 +0000 UTC]

you acknowledge it... obviously, the tiger is down below, while you're stuck up in the tree... but if you stay in the tree for too long, the tiger will climb up the tree and finish you off, instead of you jumping down and tackling the beast. Yes, I am continually using the extended metaphor.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

aristocrat-rabbit In reply to ladyvoid [2012-01-31 01:32:38 +0000 UTC]

you keep saying it's fear, other people say it's fear, it might be fear, though it doesn't feel like fear xP, more like indifference, when i do go do something drawing like i do enjoy noticing which mistakes i make for my betterment of later so i'm no afraid of making mistakes, just pure slothfullness it seems...and the distraction of my need to finish the mountain of books before they are due, the library is like my crack dealer keeping me from studying more arts lololol

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ladyvoid In reply to aristocrat-rabbit [2012-02-01 21:08:04 +0000 UTC]

laziness, though, is a delaying of doing stuff. Why not do it now? Naw, I'll do it later. What's stopping you from doing it now? Is the sketchbook too far awaty from your grasp and you're too lazy to pick it up and get it? There's definitely something stopping you. If you think it's indifference, that can definitely be so, but even the snorlax laura wants to go somewhere! you did say some time ago that you wanted your own apartment...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

aristocrat-rabbit In reply to ladyvoid [2012-02-02 19:56:17 +0000 UTC]

there is absolutely no reason why i won't do something that is productive to my potential art career...it is a mystery
AND THAT IS TRUE, now that i am starting to dislike children even more so than before, just as the flow of children in the household is increasing, BUT...money can also be gotten via job, even a minimum wage job, all i need is one to finally get my internets back and finally be able to download into my accounts some "artwork" for selling

In college - UCSC. It's such a hipster paradise and the tuition is going to be so high that I might just transfer to another college. Other than that, I'm planning to develop a portfolio to apply for character design/visual development internships. It's challenging, because I feel that I need some guidance, but in UCSC, they have no animation program. So, I'm trying to search through the resouces that I have. Hell, I may even go to a couple of portfolio review days.

Santa Cruz? Me & Bunny Panties should spontaneously visit your ass sometime. Preferably at 4 in the morning where we shower you with unused tampons in the comfort of you apt/suite/hobobox.

Ever think of going to a vocational school that specializes in Art/Animation?
I've never really thought that any old UC or CSU could do the job of a specialized school. Just don't go to Art Institutes.

Do you have any works done yet for you Portfolio? 'cuz I'm taking my portfolio class right now, and I'm nearly done with it - and let me tell you - I'm pretty sure I've been to hell back multiple times. D :
And how much is your tuition, if you don't mind me asking?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ladyvoid In reply to alkalinegenome [2011-12-05 01:34:34 +0000 UTC]

Agh, I fprgot what my tuition is, but I know that in total, school costs 33,000, and it's only going up from here. And yes, I was thinking of going to an art school. Hell, I even got accepted to calart's summer art program for high school students. I just don't have the money and lenient parents to allow me to pursue my starving artist's dreams. But I'm still trying. I did have a portfolio, but since I've improved so much in the CSSSA program, I don't like it anymore, and I'm going to make a new one from scratch this winter break. I'm going to use it to get accepted to the summer disney internship for college students, which is crazy, because other than the summer program I've mentioned earlier, I've never had legitimate instruction in character design/visual develoment. But then again, I don't care. I'm going to kick them art student applicant's asses. XD
BTW, why don't you like the academy of art?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

alkalinegenome In reply to ladyvoid [2011-12-08 09:37:56 +0000 UTC]

Art Institute, not Academy of Art. I would have LOVED to have gone to AA.
And AI sucks because the one I'm attending is a relatively new school - so pretty much everything is in chaos- their budgeting, financial aid dept, student adviser dept, scheduling, and their teacher faculty. Good emphasis on teacher faculty & administration. They haven't had enough time to weed out the good teachers from the bad - and there are a lot of bad teachers. a. freaking. lot.
And the administration is composed of a bunch of greedy fat-heads that don't really know what they're doing.

How goes re-portfoli-ation?? Lot's of fun I bet?

That's good, keep working at it! Too bad you don't have me & zeta & rabbitpanties to distract you : P

I just turned in my portfolio on Friday. It felt so, god, damned, good. [ this selection of words seems to pale in comparison on how it actually felt :I but I'm happy I'll stop having grey hairs for a bit ]
Now all I have to worry about is the show this Thursday

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ladyvoid In reply to alkalinegenome [2011-12-13 16:05:42 +0000 UTC]

You have an art show of sorts? cool...
UCSC doesn't have artsy folk that I've met yet, so I'm deprived of people who like drawing and stuff... all of your distractions are welcomed now that I have none at all! And when there are people who like to draw, they draw... bad. I'm picky.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

alkalinegenome In reply to ladyvoid [2011-12-14 01:21:13 +0000 UTC]

yeah, typical universities don't really have our ... breed... in it, or you have to Indiana-Jones that shit and search like hell for that awesome person/group.
you ever go just find a nice art class to secretly embed yourself in and make friends? relatively sure that most art professors really don't give a shit

wait, whaaat?! how can you have distractions now? you have any finals or anything like that? 'cuz I'm pretty sure Me & Rabbits can significantly help with distracting you & what-not

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ladyvoid In reply to alkalinegenome [2011-12-14 16:18:41 +0000 UTC]

Yup. I definitely know what type of "artist breed" is fun to hang out with once I had attended Calarts. It's cool for a change to have people drawing you, and those drawings turning out to be pretty good. And by distractions, I mean you guys are good distractions. Entertaining. Not some douchy floormates who are trying to pull off a dumbass prank.
