That's a difficult question to answer to... let me see..
for Romanian Folk I listen to Pasarea Colibri, Florian Pittis, Vasile Seicaru, Mircea Vintila, Niul Alifantis and... hmmm Tatiana Stepa, Valeriu Sterian and much much more...

Also I'm listening to subgenres of folk music like folk rock, indie folk, industrial etc..

I can recoomend you Drolls,Tintal, Дорога Водана, Медвежий Угол, Тролль Гнет Ель - the last one is an example of beer-folk which is really fun

Some indie-folk bands that I listen to would be: Beirut, Fleet Foxes, Vetiver, Calexico, Kings of Convenience, Bright Eyes (but they're a mix between indie rock and indie folk ) and Dodos are also ok. As for singers... there would be Cat Power, Leslie Feist, Jose Gonzalez, Laura Marling, M. Ward. Some time ago I was listening to Bon Iver and Damien Rice. Oh, and Sufjan Stevens and Animal Collective are also enjoyable listening to sometimes.

Hope you'll have what to pick from here and listen!

@ you question... I haven't been to any folk festivals for many reasons: one it would be that I don't have enough time to go and my parents don't let me 'cause these festivals are away from home. But now, that I'm growing up I hope I would go
