Why is it you regret changing from nikon to canon? i'm just curious about differing tastes.

I regret for many reasons.
canon is superb, but in greece I bought from e-shop and this company did gray-sales (importing i.e. from asian countries) so they did not give warranty, etc.
After 2 months of usage, of a canon Mark III 1DS model, which cost me all my economies, the sensor appeared to have problems.
Everytime I shot a pic, the top of frame was overexposed and rest was properly exposed, like a photostrip.
canon (gr) refused to replace or service it, although I could prove I had the invoice of purchase.
so, I wrote to canon -germany the EU authorised canon dept. They told me to sort me out + warranty, but never happened. Actually my instruction manuals were in japaneese ! I asked them for a manual and sent it after 2 months (got it about a week ago) !!!
As the camera now has a problem, I cannot get insofar a refund nor replacement nor service.
So, I was told to send it to UK, as it is the EU canon authorised service. About 2 weeks ago I sent body to UK and awaiting the news, which do not seem to be so good; I hope not to be true.
So, reseller (gr) does not refund my money. Also does not repair for free (because no warranty) but does not have authorised canon service.
Also camera AF multi-point system showed incorrect focusing. In selective mode i.e. on a head, the red square shown was on head, but when photo was taken focus was some inches in front of head, so blurry image, and focusing on other area.
So, from the side of canon behavior that attacked me, the consumer, while did not make any effort to stop the reseller from claiming authorised canon etc. but using lies to attract attention, while claiming international support etc. I feel discriminated as a professional user as well.
So I regret I bought canon because all the above and next issues to arise from manufacturer responsibility.
While I was nikon, I had similar problem with lens. The service charged me twice, but never cleaned spots on my lens. However, after I complaint to nikon Japan, they called them in Gr and kicked their ass really well + I got free new lens from Japan (Quality control).
Canon's site is in japanese and still does not have a proper contact e-mail in english to send my complaint. so sounds like a fly on a milk spot. Very visible case, which stinks ....
I put all my money in this purchase and now I do not even have a body + money + service etc.

I am sad to hear that the majority of your troubles are not in fact with the camera itself but with the manufacturer and said reseller. That is one bad situation that seems to have no end.
The AF problems you were experiencing are not uncommon with the 1Ds, from what I remember reading.
Very cool to hear about Nikon (in Japan at least) getting behind their products and helping customers out.
I really hope your situation comes to a fair end and whatever happens that you continue with photography. I can imagine buying the 1Ds really breaks the bank and therefore one would not expect it to fail as it did, much less to encounter problems with resolving the issue.

well, manufacturers must recognise the fact, no matter the advertisements, the consumer will buy. So they need to grab resellers or stop them claiming 'canon pro etc.' instead of attacking consumers.
